I am no bike rider but I really would like to try one. So I am choosing to try the Kids bikes first.

Doesn't really matter which bikes you guys have a RBB day, as you don't have one of these days planned for Port Elizabeth :-(
wassssssuuupp,,,,I wiegh about 237, and 6'2 tall. ive always counted on steal or semi steal for strength and duribility, and budgeted, beacause i'm an agressive horsetrail and bike trail rider. at least 4 days/3 hrs a day.smaller 19" hardtail , fork suspension,ok seems to small but it's me... i like building my own somtimes but never tried auluminum frames,,,was always afraid of frame tacoing, twisting,,frame failiar somehow..two years ago or so i bilt a gary fischer all aluminum frame,21" 26" weels,,looking to go lighter, and faster, and i was very impressed,,SWEEEEEEET,,,but couldnt throw it around as easy as the 19,,then bike was stolen,,after that,i built a 19" specalized high grade aluminum frame,26" wheels and i find it to be even swwwwweeeeeeeter, not only am i back on the horse trail,,respecting the pony's and all wildlife i may add,,,, and even passing up the ocassional pro rider, praise aluminum, and specialized. anyway i hope im not heading for a header,,have i just been lucky? im a larger than the usual mountain biker,,i've been riding it for about 9 months and even aded a pair of steele fork shocks.some comments or opinions would bee nice,,,,,,thanks for the oppurtunity to comment,,,M.BIKING RULES,,is 44to old for adrenalin junk'in
The timing of this RBB is perfect. End October was when I was planning on buying a new bike, so this would help a great deal! I really hope you guys can get some 2011 Silverbacks (Mercury's).
I've heard from a couple of people (including Bikeshop owner whos sells Silverbacks) that the Silverback Mercury's rear end seems to flex terrible. Would rather buy something else, the Silverback Hardtails are good value for money and no problems.
Silverback Technologies is a privately held company with a design innovation centre in Friedrichshafen, design and test lab in Cape Town as well as a resource facility in Asia. Imagine a world where your work and your ideals are your passion, where obsession is born out of love for your vision and the drive for design excellence .
The pursuit of pure lines and perfect proportions. Imagine a world where, in the passion for perfection, there can and will be no limits. Silverback. The Brand. Is born. A mission to find inspirational design solutions to urban culture and urban movement. In designing, developing and constructing the new Silverback collection of bicycles and equipment, they have challenged all thought processes, redefined levels of precision and embraced the use of new materials.
It has not been Since 2008/2009 that i heard the comment on Flex. I myself had been a Avid supporter of the Silverback Mercury and sold my 2009 model for the new Generation 2010 model and the So called "Flex" in the rear end is non existing. You feel that the Whole Suspension System has been Tweaked and adjusted to Perfection.
I believe the 2011 Range they Reduced weight on the Pivot System, Simplified and it even more, with out losing the effectiveness of their IDS system. This is really one off the most impressive systems I have ever Ridden. You can really see these guys has evolved and Spend a Lot of Time on Engineering. I have seen on their Website they have a Synergy 1 Which is a Titanium Carbon Model and that bike weight 10.00kg Flat.
Well Done Silverback, Keep Up the Great work, we Expect great thing to Come.
Remember every Bike brand has a History and if you go and look Closely at the history of any Brand, you will see they all had some issue and they all Build from their onward.
With regards to the comment on rear end flex of the Mercury, I made comparison between the Mercury and Santa Cruz Blur XC as the nearest available bike with a comparable suspension system.
The alleged "terrible rear end flex" of the Mercury was apparently no different than the highly esteemed Santa Cruz Blur.
Though it may be remarked that the initial Mercury was not the stiffest rig around, it never purported to be. I have ridden the older rig on demanding terrain and had my brand discerning (read "snobbish") character humbled. The IDS system performed better than I could have imagined and resulted in a bike that cornered better than my previous bikes. Those that know me, will know what brands I am referring to.
The new models for 2011 are sublime and the revised RDS system for the rear suspension is now oodles stiffer than before and that with a not-insignificant weight reduction.
Comments on "history " made in the post before are very valid. The new IDS systems as well as other Silverback models will continue to be refined and some refinements for 2012 are already penned. The history of Silverback is entirely commendable and they have recently become a player on the international market.
Silverback is a credit to South Africa
