It is with deep sadness that we hear the news that the 2x Tour de France winner, Laurent Fignon, is dead.

After a long battle with pancreatic cancer, one of the sport's esteemed legends has conceded. While we'll remember him as a protagonist in arguably the most exciting Tour battles in history, losing to Greg Lemond by only 8 seconds, his impressive palmares also include a Giro victory in 1989 as well as two Milan San Remo titles.

RIP Laurent Fignon.

A great cyclist indeed. His fall when his crank arm broke during Le Tour is a classic piece of cycling memorabilia. Thanks Laurent for giving being one of the greats when I was new to cycling.
