The new Garmin 800

Just when the fuss about the Edge 500 dies down (the best cycling computer we’ve tested), Garmin announce the Edge 800. It's a beaut - check it out!

Although it’s touted as an update of the 705 that adorns so many mountain bikes these days, there seems to be more to it. Firstly it has a 2.6” colour screen. This wouldn’t be much use with the old software, but with BirdsEye™ Satellite Imagery bundled into the deal, you can switch views to see the real trails rather than just a virtual diagram of them. Even if you are someone who’s wary of chasing the latest gadget, you’ll be tempted, not least by a more svelte design and improved battery life (claimed). Combined with the vast amount of ride data and customizable display, it makes for a tempting upgrade.

There’s no word yet on SA availability, but we’ll announce it as soon as we know more.

Hi all!

Well, if this "thing" is the same as the old 705, which still does not work properly, it will not reach the handlebar of my bikes.
Sorry, but I would like a computer to be able to plug and play, and not fiddle around, and do a dozen of software updates to get different bugs.

On the other hand, you get lots of good things too, including a good warranty replacement department.

I will wait and see!

Unfortuntely even here in Europe these are expensive, particularly compared to the normal GPS systems (which admittedly arent always suited to bikes!), so the ne one will be over Euro 500's!
