Well done Team South Africa!
Well done to all of Team South Africa for doing the country proud at the 2010 MTB and DH World Champs.
The South African team are heading home after a successful run at the MTB and DH World Champs in Canada. In the past few years, our only real medal hopes have been Burry Stander and Greg Minnaar, but in 2010 we are seeing a number of juniors coming up in the ranks, so we can look forward to many more medals to come!
Not to mention Burry raced his first year in the elite category and there is no sign of Greg hanging up his pedals any time soon.
Check out how all the South Africans faired at the MTB and DH World Champs
In typical Mt Saint Anne fashion, after a rain-soaked weekend, it is a glorious day today as the team prepares to head home after the evening's festivities.
Here are some snippets from some of the riders' twitter feeds about the race:
Burry Stander (africanmtbkid): I'm getting old. One night of fun now leads to two days of pain!!! Thanks for all the messages!
Yolande Speedy (Yolandes): Almost ready to start the long journey home, been an amazing trip but looking forward to being back on SA soil!
Greg Minnaar (gregminnaar):Podium champagne smells good on your clothes when you win. But when the winner's champagne gets on your clothes, it really doesn't smell that good.
Philip Buys (philbuys): So, 24th at worlds! Lost about 5 places on last lap! Good SA support out on course! Yeah!
Gary Perkin was there to take fantastic photos of the event - as usual. According to his latest twitter feed he has announced this will be his last World Champs ... without an assistant!
