The third annual Gravel & Grape Extreme three-day MTB event is taking place from 5-7 May 2017 and riders who enter before 28 February 2017 stand the chance to win their entry fee back!

Gravel & Grape “Extreme”

Sharp-eyed riders will notice that the name of the event has been tweaked – the newly christened “Extreme” is the same race that hardcore mountain bikers have come to know and love; the Extreme simply indicates that this three-day ride is not to be taken lightly.

Featuring some of the gnarliest, purest, expertly hand-cut singletrack in the country, the Gravel & Grape Extreme is an event that takes mountain biking back to its roots. With challenging technical riding, the Extreme is best suited for riders with a sense of adventure and a well-stocked arsenal of rock-hopping, berm-bending, switchback-sizzling talent.

The route has been crafted to reflect the rugged nature of the Breedekloof Wine Valley, but also to show its gentler side. Stunning views, unique scenery, and three days of pure mountain biking will leave you gasping for more.
The Gravel and Grape Extreme is also a showcase of the regions quality wines, hearty country food, majestic mountains, vineyards and sparkling rivers.

The hot springs of ATKV Goudini Spa, stunning Fynbos and hospitable people make this an event like few others.

The Breedekloof Wine Valley is just one hour from Cape Town, and includes Rawsonville, Slanghoek, Goudini & Breerivier.

The event race village is based at Goudini Spa, making this a family weekend instead of just another rider event. Bring the family while you tackle the testing terrain.

The race is a clover leaf, with each day starting and ending at Goudini Spa, making your overnight experience one to remember.

Gravel & Grape Adventure

The Gravel & Grape Adventure two-day MTB challenge covers 65km of cycling over the course of its two stages and is happening from 6-7 May.

Day 1 will cover 35km and 350m of climbing, while Day 2 is a 30km route with a 640m of climbing.

The race is also a clover leaf format, with each day starting and ending at ATKV Goudini Spa. The Gravel & Grape Adventure is a solo and team event. Entries are for teams of two in two different categories: junior and open.

The junior category is for both team members between the ages of 16 and 18 years, while the open category can be a son/daughter, husband/wife, daughter/father team or any two adults who would like to experience their first stage race.

The routes will follow the same trail as the Gravel & Grape Extreme, so while the days and distances are shorter, you’ll still be riding on the same terrain as the main event. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a good variety of singletrack, climbs and jeep track.

“We want Gravel & Grape to be a true family experience, which is why we have based our race village at the hot water resort, ATKV Goudini Spa,” says Melody Botha, CEO of Breedekloof Wine & Tourism. “By including a Gravel & Grape Adventure alongside the Extreme, we can truly cater for the whole family as this opens the race up to school children, parents, newbies or those looking for a new challenge.”
