I’m new to the whole Mountain biking/off road scene………..and didn’t want to break the bank spending money on something I could not potentially take up as a full time sport.

So with budget being the major factor I shopped around to see what I could get. Enter the Titan 29R Comp. Yes, it’s a budget/entry 29R Mountain bike but offers decant bang for buck…….

    The good:
Finishing on the frame is excellent and the paintwork/welding and frame geometery is up there with the big boys.

Also don’t be fooled with the entry type Shimano groupset…….once setup and tuned it’s all you need as it changes gears quick and easy without any fuss.

I have a frame in the LARGE size and being 1,93meters tall the standard stem/seat/seatpost fitted my riding style like a glove.

If you a recreational rider doing the odd race or trial this bike is more than enough for you……If you want something you can bling out over time it’s the ideal platform.

I have replaced my standard factory brakes with a set of Magura MT4′s as the standard factory brakes don’t do to well if you weight anything more than 70kg’s.

I’m also running a set of Beeop pedals and Richie Seatpost with a 15mm riser bar handle fitted with Cane Creek bar ends.

Wheel wise I opted tpo replace the standard Alex rims as I damaged the front while out on a frial in Groenkloof…..I opted for a white set of Shimano’s MT55′s :)

    The Bad:
As mentioned the brakes are suffiecient if you dont weight anything about the 70 – 80kg mark………else you will find them heating up quite quickly under severe braking.

Only fault I could get on this setup was the fork…….but again weighing 90kg, it’s more a case of you get what you pay for……..I found the fork to bottom out when the ruff stuff is tackled……This would be my next investment, getting a decant fork.

In summary, I doubt there is anything on the SA market that can come close to the fit and finish this bike gives you………Go and test ride one and see for yourself :)

Budget price but competitive package. I looked around for a bike in the same price range and did not find anything that suited me or felt as good. I have had the bike a year now and have had no problems at all – including brakes and fork. I have had some really muddy rides and the brakes are doing great. The gears are very responsive if you keep them well maintained (as with all bikes).
Worth every rand – and the paint work is an added bonus n that the design and colours are eye catching and bold.
