Trek Bicycles: Superfly 100 AL Elite 29er
No list of 29er bikes is complete without the man who popularised the movement. Gary Fisher may have sold his company to Trek, but the soul of the pioneer remains. New for 2012 us a 142×12 thru axle with Trek’s ABP (Active Braking Pivot) system that keeps the rear suspension active under braking, plus it’s 35% stiffer than an open dropout design. The wheels feature oversized hub flanges and end caps, also contributing to silencing the critics of the flexier 29er format. A faultless choice.

Bought this bike last week, only 2 rides thus far. Sick bike, can’t wait to hit the dirt. Very fast. 29lbs out of the box, 19″ frame. will upgrade handlebars, seatpost, wheels and crank eventually, should get down to 26lbs. Sexy fast killer fs bike. Will b raced.
When this beast touches the road it feels like it’s flying; now I know why it’s called Superfly. Measured my time/effort in a common road which took me 2 hours to finish in a 26 MTB, but in this Superfly I made 1 hour 26 minutes and with less effort. I’m extremely happy with this bike; lock the rear suspension for climbing, unlock for descending, it feels like a Cadillac and roads over any obstacle you find. Would like the 2011 color but white pearl looks incredible also. Lightweight? not too much, almost 29 lbs with pedals, but for a full suspension bike it’s great, strong, you feel confident under any road conditions. Wanted to buy a Giant Anthem but didn’t like the top tube frame, they had some issues with it. The Trek Superfly has a reinforced frame from the top tube to the seat tube; it’s a state of the art frame. Upgrading? not yet, let me recover from this expense (don’t tell your wife haha…). Just made tires tubeless and planning to change the complete wheelset maybe in a couple years more.
