After weeks of speculation Pinarello has officially launched its long awaited entry into the MTB market under the same philosophy that has made it one of the most important names in road cycling; continuous innovation. A brand well known for its advanced and game-changing designs for road racing, Pinarello has applied its capacity to find performance and speed enhancing solutions to their off road version.
In stark contrast to the widely held belief that nothing new could be done to a hardtail MTB frame, the new DOGMA XC 9.9 is a striking example of innovation that offers a wide array of advanced solutions.
Some key unique selling points on the new Pinarello 29er MTB include:
›› Assymetric Twin Arms which separate the seat stays both vertically and laterally, dissipating vibrations in a more uniform way across a larger surface area, giving this frame a comfort without rival in a hardtail mountain bike without losing responsiveness.
›› Breaking with tradition by moving the rear brake system to the chain-stay tube as they are designed to be more robust than seat-stay tubes. This ensures a more efficient and stronger overall braking performance.
›› Innovation of the “ForkStopper” which allowed Pinarello to design their 29er with the optimal geometry while still protecting the frame from fork impacts – which has traditionally been the reason why other manufacturers have changed their frame geometry to overcome frame and fork impact points.
›› Internal cable routing.
›› 60HM1K carbon – which relates to a carbon strength that can withstand 60 tons of pressure per square millimetre.
Pinarello has also launched an aluminum version using some of the same technology and expertise at a more competitive price, The MANTHA XC. The RAD braking system has been incorporated into this aluminum frame offering increased stopping power and a more resistant construction. The rear triangle takes a great deal of inspiration from its carbon cousin in that the seat stays connect above the top tube giving the aluminum line added comfort and shock absorption. The MANTHA XC has a conical headset with (1 1/8 top, 1 ½ bottom), a press fit 30 bottom bracket that makes for more efficient pedaling and a double closure 2-bolt system on the seat clamp.
