One of the most scenic routes on the SA cycling calendar. The route takes riders through the city, country side and then hugs the coastline on the way to the finish.

106km Route

The 106km route will be the same as in 2016, which incorporates Upper Valley Road and then to 1st Ave Walmer before reaching the Sprint Point.

Riders negotiate through the streets of Walmer before tackling the new Sprint Point at 12.4km into the race (opposite Mike’s Kitchen on Buffelsfontein Road). The route then keeps with the 55km route up the Longbarn Climb. There is no time to rest as riders then continue onto the climb of Lake Farm. Riders will also look forward to a dedicated Spectator Zone where the public will be cheering them up this short but steep climb.

The riders then head Eastward along Kragga Kamma Road on a flatter next few kilometers, before heading up Butterfield Road and past the Altona School where the 1st waterpoint will be located. After a short stretch on the Old Cape Road, riders will tackle Draaifontein Road before descending down “The Wall” at high speed to the base of the Maitlands Climb. Here riders will hope for a tail wind as they ascend the climb of Maitlands before continuing along Seaview Road. Schoenmakerskop then awaits the riders as they fly past this picturesque coastal village, returning to the Start/Finish via Marine Drive.

55km Route

The 2018 route remains unchanged with riders tackling some challenging climbs but also being treated to stunning views along the Port Elizabeth coastline.

Riders begin at Pollok Beach, head down Marine Drive, continue onto Beach Road and turn left into Walmer Boulevard. Riders then tackle the streets of Walmer up to the top of Mount Pleasant. From here the route deviates off Seaview Road and tackles the Longbarn Climb followed by the undulations of Old Seaview Road. The route rejoins Seaview Road and continues Eastward through Schoemakerskop, returning to the Start/Finish via Marine Drive.
