The Ashburton Investments National MTB Series, previously known as the MTN National MTB Series, will consist of seven events across six provinces over an eight month period.
The second stop in the Ashburton Investments National MTB Series will be “Sabie” , also known for the last 19 years as the benchmark marathon mountain bike race by which all others are judged and spanned over two days.
Sabie is a small town nestled on the Drakensberg escarpment and is regarded as the hub of mountain biking in South Africa, with a long history of competitive and recreational riding. With downhill slaloms into pine forests, kilometres of flowing single tracks, rolling hills and picturesque trails, enthusiastic mountain bike riders from far and away line-up each year alongside the country’s top professionals to challenge the legendary Sabie mountains.
You can look forward to brand new re-envisioned routes with hand built single track, well stocked water points, uncongested routes with little overlap, an expo area, local food stalls & craft beer, massages, bike wash and VIP Area.
The routes, ranging from a 10km fun ride to a 105km race for Ultra Pro/Elite riders, will see over 3000 riders descend upon the small Lowveld town.
The terrain consists of single track, jeep track, gravel road and hardpack with features that include hand built single track, bridges, river crossings, bush tunnels and spectacular views.
Saturday – Marathon and Ultra Events
