Description

The Tuks Sportsgrounds in Pretoria this year play host to the Bestmed Satellite MTB Championship on 15 October 2017.  A purposely built fast and flowing trail will facilitate 20km and 40km distance offerings.

The event starts and finishes at the Tuks High Performance Centre (HPC) in the heart of Pretoria and riders can complete either one or two laps of the exciting 20km circuit. The HPC is situated on the LC de Villiers Sports Grounds.

ASG Events Director, Darren Herbst, started route building on the sports grounds and adjacent properties four months prior to the event and has assured that riders would get have the excitement of a true mountain-biking experience – surprisingly within urban surrounds.

It’s urban mountain biking at its best and it’s so close and easily accessible for riders from all over Pretoria; it’s practically in their backyard.

It’s a user-friendly quick course and only slightly undulating with a surprisingly varied terrain offering – all interlinked with tarred and paved sections.

The University of Pretoria’s High Performance Centre (HPC) is Southern Africa’s first elite performance sports facility. Launched in 2002 and having celebrated their 14th year in existence, the Centre is the training ground for sporting champions and a popular venue sports professionals and enthusiasts.

Hence, we felt it was perfectly suited for the creation of a mountain-bike trail and to launch the trail ASG is presenting the Bestmed Satellite MTB Championship.

The HPC’s unique combination of world-class training facilities, medical services, accommodation, nutritional and scientific expertise, research and hospitality has established its local and international reputation for excellence and success.

These facilities annually attract international athletes as well as local sporting bodies for training camps or specific team preparation. The HPC has become the preferred location for Team South Africa pre-departure camps, as well as the preferred centre of specialisation for a significant number of national federations.
