I enjoyed the race until we hit the busy road with trucks. I felt very unsafe and saw a bad accident. I will never enter the race again if the same route is used. Although you sign an indemnity I do feel its the race organizers responsibility to provide a safe environment.

I enjoyed the race,it was well organized, weather great. Please change route,I stay in Heidelburg, and Heidelburg cyclists know that the road between Heidelburg and Nigel is very dangerous, espesially with coal trucks. It was so disturbing seeing a cyclist killed on that road, just change the route!thanx Eileen Pike

Very well organized Race. Route must change. On that same road I got hit by a mirror of a 4×4 on my shoulder, luckily I was not injured. I was on the yellow line. His mirror broke off and he did not even stopped to see if we were ok.

The road surface was horrible most of the way, with that single-lane narrow road, with 20cm of tar between the shoulder of the road & the yellow line being INSUFFICIENT & the road was CRAZY with TRUCKS racing past you…
Even a woman KILLED at about the 65km mark of the 103km event.

Marshals were AMAZINGLY helpful & supportive, but the road conditions, as stated above, we’re AWFUL.
Why not change the route to a SAFE one where no-one needs to feel like they’re 30cm away from being run over by a car or truck?

The starting groups were not announced clearly or loud enough, and the water points were few and far between.
The people at the water points were awesome!!!!!
    And so encouraging!

It was my first and LAST Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Race over the 103km distance until conditions improve at LEAST with 50% in all of the abovementioned instances.

It was a sorry first long race for a courageous heart who lost its “spunk” due to careless planning of the route.

It left me feeling downhearted and defeated.

This was my first Road Cycling event ever and I enjoyed it. I did notice a lot of coal trucks at a point but being my first race I thought it was normal :-) We all have to share the road right?

The marshals were great and special thanks to each and every one for their time and effort!

There were some crazy winds at a stage which added to the challenge, which was great!

I agree, the staff at the water points made sure we got enough fluids and were encouraging.

    Thanks to all!
