Route
The 30km and 60km share the first 22km. The route consists of a lung bursting 4km climb at the start followed by fynbos-lined jeep track through private mountain land, flowing onto district road.The 30km has a short climb on newly planted vineyard farmland and then flows down into the town on single and fast flowing jeep track, to finish with a short section through the back streets of Napier. The 60km moves through district road and jeep track when it climbs a fynbos track where portage will be necessary. The jeep track rises slowly through fynbos mountain side to culminate in a white knuckle ride downhill to the Elim road, where there are a few long slow climbs back to Napier on district road. Thew 60km will follow the same last section of the 30km ride into the back of Napier and then back to the school.

This race used to be magic, what happened man!
Bad, bad, very bad:
1) The finish and the last 3 or 4 km was not marked at all!
2) With about a quarter of the field still not finished, the organisers /timekeepers just abandons the event and walks off!
3) No sweepers
4) Ten odd late finishers being chased off the field like dogs, by the athletics master of ceremonies …
5) Total confusion between jogger and cycling course markers
6) No prize giving
7) No lucky draws
8) What happened to the prizes that were stacked on the table – did your friends get it?!
9) Course “crossed over” – Who has right of way?! Outright bloody dangerous!
10) Doubt if you will see us again.
Positive:
It was a nice ride: Nice Fynbos, Nice ground texture and from previous rides, nice views – but foggy this year…
I loved this ride! It was my first and it was a blast. Will definitely do it again.
There will be attention to the mistakes of last year and we hope you will give us the opportunity to delight you!
You Need to go to Napier this weekend for the long weekend. There will be delicious events on the Sunday. Special food and wine restaurant route with wine tasting and a surprise patat dish.
