Organisers of the race have set the bar so high, I suspect other races will simply pass so far underneath that a comparison with neither be possible nor worthwhile. Little things like potplants in all porta-loos, beaded bracelets at the start of day 2, the Clover tub at MacKenzie etc.; people will pay money to do a race, and not expect to receive these kinds of things.
I cannot go on enough about how I impressed I was with the organisation of this race. The only, ONLY slip up was that some kit boxes were a little late in getting to the finish. This, when at that point they had over 4000 people spread between Underberg and Scottburgh.
Sani is a race everybody should do. More companies should get involved, and sponsors should climb over one another to be associated with the race (on that note: congrats to the existing guys – BoE, Subaru, Salomon, Aca Joe etc. Fantastic work by these guys allows the race to be what it is, and us riders whould respect and reward that if at all possible). You get impeccable organisation, unbelievable riding for 3 days, and on top of everything, they are doing a huge amount of social work, and your money is really making a difference in communities.
I’m completely sold.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!! Need I say more! This was a truly superb, spectacular, incredible, amazing, stunning, sublime, unbelievable, breathtaking, magnificent event! (how many adjectives can I use?) Seriously Farmer Glen and his team, should run the country! Can’t they start a political party called the Sani Party??!! Every MTB’er in the country would vote for him and everyone else too! They win hands down over any event in the country and it sure lives up to its reputation, being the best MTB event in the world…. I think the waiting list for next year will be the longest it has ever been! Thanks to everyone @Sani2c for absolutely everything! The memories will linger forever! I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to take part and ride such a beautiful trail! I’m Proudly South African!
Thanks to every one of the organisers , helpers , assitants and anyone else that was a part of this wonderful race. To say thank you does not express how much our appreciation of this wonderful experience has been. YOU WERE AWESOME!
Back for more next year.!
Awesome event. Superb route and general organisation. Loved just about every moment (except climbs). Only little glitches that were a slight irritation were shortage of kit for Trail riders, long queues for meals and the organised chaos when handing in back boxes, but these paled in significance when your remember the overall experience.
This was my first multi-day stage race and a psycological barrier I had to overcome. I could not have picked a better event/race to put all my hard earned skills to the test. It had everything that contributes to a great event packaged in one event and spread over 3 days of awsome riding with scenery to match. The Trial event had the added benefit of not having many racing snakes, impatiently waiting to pass you when you are trying not to go over the side or fall down a rock infested downhill single track. It had variety of rides, scenery to match, hills to challenge, single track to make you feel young again, interesting water crossings, nasty finishes and an organisational infrastructure and support team that made you feel special.
Only problem i had was bottle necks on some single track & slower riders on the downhill single track, just need to up my game to get into a better starting position.
So my mountain biking goal has been achieved, I have managed to complete the illustrious Sani to Sea mountain bike race (Trail) after hearing for years about the race from my friends. My senses have had a serious overload over the 3 magnificent days that I tested my body. Wow what a beautiful country we live in and what a fantastic race. I loved every minute of it and will definitely do this one again.
Truly phenominalexperience! A must do!!
After doing it once, I said wouldn’t do another Sani race, but there I was, yet again wooping along some of the best singletrack in the country and enjoying world-class organization and hospitality from the three farmers…I mean, how do you feed 1200 people a hot medium-rare steak all at once?!?
I think at least one water point had been done away with, which stretched the distance between stops, but I was carrying enough with me to keep going, although lesser mortals may have struggled at that point.
Great goody bags and a generous supply of clothing are bonuses on this 3 day ride that everyone should do at least once in their mtb life
