Route update:
2 changes to the 60km route for 2012. The start is slightly different to bypass a soaked wheat field and due to roadworks/blasting on Shaw’s Pass we have to cross the mountain on a farm track that is sure to be a highlight of this year’s route and is sure to be a permanent addition. The climb is around 250m in 3km so it will make the original pass look like a hill and put the Staal in Staalwater! Once over the top we are adding singletrack created by the local Rockhoppers MTB club, creating a nice diverse route for 2012. New profile on the website.
Beautiful scenery and a fairly non-technical and fast race.
Loved the naartjies at the water points and that the riders could choose from various liquid refreshments.
Parts of the race on the gravel road was potentially dangerous, as the cars using the road were not very careful when approaching and passing the riders.
The last few kilometres, crossing the railway lines was also a bit dangerous, esepcially for female riders riding alone.
