Sunday Shootout: Green Point bike race
Cyclists, choose your weapon: fixie, roadie…
The Sunday Shootout Cycle Race is set to take to the streets of Cape Town on Sunday, 10 June 2012. While less trendy folks tackle Suikerbossie Hill in all their spandex-based glory, the cool kids will be racing around Cape Town with a general disregard for traffic rules and an unwavering desire for flannel shirts. Participants get to choose their own weapon: Fixie, Single Speed, Roadie, MTB and then compete against those in their class – if you’re not first, you’re last.
If you can’t attend this week, don’t fret, the cycle race – barring too many traffic-related deaths – is set to take place the second Sunday of every month.
Entrance is a recession-friendly affair: R5p/p. Entries open at 2:45pm and close at 2:50pm; the race starts at 3pm, and there are only prizes for those who come first in their category. Luckily, everyone else gets a pat on the back. Checkpoint/s will be announced at 12pm on race day on the Facebook group (see link below). Don’t miss out, it’s the hottest way to get your wheels turning since the Cape Town Naked bicycle race, the Midnight Mass Cycle – but, not the Cape Argus.
