Animation By Bicycle

Bicycles can be used for a lot of things—racing, exercise, commuting, and, of course, recreation. But Katy Beveridge, a London-based student of animation at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, found a different use for bikes.

As part of her third-year dissertation, she researched proto animation (an extremely basic form of animation) to see if it would be possible to film animation in real time. To test this theory, Beveridge placed paper cutouts around the spokes of a bicycle, took the bike for a ride, and filmed the results.
