BREAKING NEWS: Guilty!

Today the Court of Arbitration for Sport handed Alberto Contador a two year ban from the sport. Finally, we have a verdict, but what does this mean for El Pistolero?

The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne has today announced that the Spaniard will be stripped of all titles in the past two years; including the 2010 Tour de France as well as the 2011 Giro d’Italia, meaning Andy Schleck is now the 2010 Tour champion and Michele Scarponi the winner of the Giro.

Seeing as the ban is dated back two years, it will end on 5 August meaning he will be able to ride in this year’s Vuelta a Espana.

Alberto Contador tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol in the 2010 Tour de France and after a very lengthy process the ruling has finally been made.

“Without wanting to enter into the details of the ruling, UCI President Pat McQuaid said: ‘This is a sad day for our sport. Some may think of it as a victory, but that is not at all the case. There are no winners when it comes to the issue of doping: every case, irrespective of its characteristics, is always a case too many.’”
