Greg Minnaar has done it again! It seems Fort William has become his new home track as he secured not only his third consecutive World Cup win at this venue (7 in total) but also earned his 20th World Cup victory in the process.

Qualifying with the fastest time meant Minnaar would roll out of the start blocks last – a sometimes unlucky position when the weather doesn’t play ball. And while the rain did begin to fall, Minnaar’s run culminated in one of the most exciting finishes in recent times. The G.O.A.T. trounced his nearest rival, Jack Moir (who secured his best World Cup finish), by nearly three seconds with American Aaron Gwin rounding off the podium.

“I didn’t think luck was on my side today, it started raining hard at the top and I spent myself trying to ride hard. With the rain in my face, my vision wasn’t good and I knew I would have to pull a tear off before I went into the woods,” Minnaar told Red Bull TV.

“I rode it smooth until the end of the woods and opened it up at the bottom,” he said. “This is my toughest World Cup win for sure, I worked for this run.”

With 3 UCI Downhill World Championships and 20 World Cup victories under his belt, could Minnaar be one of the greatest South African athletes of all time?
