There were a number of impressive performances this weekend by South Africans racing overseas. Greg Minnaar, Ashleigh Moolman, Conrad Stoltz, David George to name a few.
* Greg Minnaar came third at the third round of the UCI DH World Cup in Leogang, Austria making it 51 podiums since he’s been racing on the WC Circuit.
* Ashleigh Moolman (Bicycling’s featured Action Figure in the next issue) won the King of the Mountains category at the Emakumeen Bira Tour and finished 6th overall.
* The Caveman Conrad Stoltz took yet another XTERRA win – this time in Richmond, Virginia, USA. SA’s other XTERRA phenomenon, Dan Hugo took second place.
* David George had a fantastic win at the Willingen Bike Festival Marathon in Germany with Kevin Evans coming in for a well-deserved third place after a race fraught with technical trouble. Read Kevin Evans’ report here.
The sad thing is, none of these results were even mentioned in the mainstream media (not that I heard anyway). When will cycling be taken as a sport worthy of mentioning to the masses?
Anyone else we may have missed? Please share all of the South African results you know of. Let’s show our support of our proudly South African cyclists.

Another South African athlete that is competing in Xterra over the USA is Michael Keith. He is competing in the 20-24 age group and so far has a 3rd and 2 1st places in US Regional Championship Xterra races. Read his blog on http://mikeykeith.com/
Check out the sort of article that makes it on to Supersport’s website : http://www.supersport.com/schools/rugby/news/110613/Glenwood_takes_charge
That was on their landing page this morning when I read the site.
Just backs up the author’s (Kirsten I assume) statement about lack of cycling coverage on SA media.
Revolution3 Half Ironman in Quassy, Conneticut:
1st James Cunnama
10th Dan Hugo (one week after taking second place at the Richmond xterra)
