After a tough day out on route Henry Uys and Theresa Ralph rode to victory at the 2012 ProNutro Magalies Monster Mountain Bike Classic completing the 70km route in a deserving time of 03hours31minutes02seconds and 03hours31minutes05seconds respectively.

Uys and Ralph were also the first riders in the men’s and women’s categories to cross the 32km mark, securing them the titles of King and Queen of the mountain at the 2012 ProNutro Magalies Monster Mountain Bike Classic.

According to Uys securing a victory on his fourth attempt at the ProNutro Magalies Monster was an awesome experience. “Today’s event was a killer, especially if you were racing it. Luckily I knew what to expect, I tried not to ride to the max at the start as I knew I’d pay for it in the end. The terrain is seriously unforgiving, every time you think you can take a rest you are forced to keep fighting. After doing the Magalies Monster any other race seems tame. I’m ecstatic with my performance today as this is definitely a great race to put on one’s CV,” says Uys. Maarten Van Der Horst came in 2nd, while Johan Renier finished 3rd.

Ralph was pleased with her second consecutive victory at the ProNutro Magalies Monster MTB Classic. “I always forget how tough this race is with loose rocks, tufts of grass and lots of loose sand, this race really is a monster. There weren’t many strong girls to race against today so I had to set my sights on the men,” laughs Ralph. “The Magalies Monster is one of the first events that I took part in when I first started mountain biking. It will always be a special event for me. Everybody should try the 70km race. If you can do this race, any other race in Johannesburg will be a breeze”. Claudia Slattery came in 2nd, while Nicky Booyens finished 3rd.

Alta Kuys secured a 1st place in the women’s category of the 40km ProNutro Magalies Monster MTB Classic with finishing time of 02hours49minutes41seconds. Johandri Leicester came in 2nd, while Larise Venter finished 3rd.

Nicholas Popich finished 1st in the men’s category of the 40km ProNutro Magalies Monster MTB Classic with finishing time of 01hour55minutes43seconds. Louis Van Wyk came in 2nd, while Tyrone Marais finished 3rd.
