Richie Porte of Team BMC has given his first interview since suffering a Tour de France ending crash on the final descent of Stage 9 on Mont du Chat.

The crash occurred after Porte misjudged a left turn, hit a grassy verge and came off the bike, throwing him to the other side of the road. Quick-Step’s Dan Martin also lost control during the incident, and veered straight into the floored Porte. The Australian was  taken to hospital and it has been revealed that he suffered a fractured collarbone and pelvis. He was however cleared of any head, neck and spinal injuries.

Speaking in a video from his hospital bed, Porte considered himself lucky to have gotten away with the injuries he has. He also says that he was conscious throughout the ordeal, and is not sure when he will be back on the bike.
