Directions to the venue

Approached from Cape Town, the most pleasing route is as follows:

Take the N1 north until you reach exit 47 – Wellington/Stellenbosch.

Take this exit and turn left onto the R44 which you follow in the direction of Wellington (left) for 28km. Do not turn off this road. You will pass various turnoffs and crossroads, which you should bypass, until you reach a long uphill stretch, with the town of Wellington on your left.

You will arrive at a traffic light with the cemetery on your right. Turn right (Piet Retief Road) and drive downhill for approximately 1km. You will see the signs to Diemersfontein on your left. Entrance will be at Gate 2.

A great, tough course. Well marked out route with friendly marshals. The one thing that detracts from an otherwise great race was the cut off. While I understand that the marshals can't be there all day, one must take the weather into consideration and understand that due to the quagmire created by the downpour and the hundreds of wheels churning up the mud, the pace would be very slow. So, cutting off riders with only 10km to go of a 65km race was somewhat disappointing.
