Cyclists will depart from Stellenbosch High School, encountering their first climb of the day when they make their way up the new Helshoogte Pass, before the long descent through Pniel and towards Franschhoek. The route will take them through Wemmershoek and past the Drakenstein Correctional Centre where Nelson Mandela was held from 1987 to 1990.

The tour continues through Southern Paarl and after a short ride on the road into Wellington, cyclists will head back to the finish in Stellenbosch.

In last year’s race, the results in the Elite Men category were:

  • 1st: Bernard Esterhuizen (Team Giant) (02:21:11)
  • 2nd: Brandon Christians (Alpha Body Works) (02:21:11)
  • 3rd: Graeme Ockhuis (Yorkshire) (02:21:11)

  • 2nd: Celeste Renaud (UCT Private Client Holdings) (02:32:15)
  • 3rd: Carmen Buchacher (Team Velocity Sports Lab) (02:32:15)

Suitable for novice and experienced cyclists

The Medihelp Stellenbosch Cycle Tour has been called the ideal course for less experienced cyclists, offering excellent experience in climbing hills and riding in a bunch, while professional cyclists also get to tackle a challenging course, especially on the Helshoogte section of the ride, which has an ascent of 1,285 metres.

“Medihelp is proud to be associated with this popular event. It caters for all cyclists, giving everybody the opportunity to improve on their personal best performance.”

Entries will close on 27 November at 16:00. This is the final premier seeding event for the 2018 Cape Town Cycle Tour, so entries are expected to sell fast – don’t miss out!
