SUMMARY:The Greyton Pie Run MTB Gravel Grinder
DESCRIPTION:The Pie Run Gravel Grinder is a charity event with all proceeds being split between the GGMTB Kids Riding Club and the GGMTB Club. All funds received by the GGMTB Club go directly back into trail building and trail maintenance. \nGreyton Mountain Bikers are pleased to present the second running of the 76 and 30 km gravel grinder event in September 2019. \nAfter the success of last year’s event and very positive feedback received from entrants\, we are putting on the same event and attempting to set the standard even higher than before. The event caters for both pure gravel grinders and mountain bikers to cycle stunningly scenic gravel roads through the Overberg countryside in the late spring season. Wheat and barley fields\, yellow flowering canola and blue cranes against the backdrop of the magnificent Riviersonderend mountain range will delight all participants. This is a supported race with three fully stocked refreshment points for the longer distance and one for the shorter ride. The voluntary stop in Riviersonderend for a “pie and coffee” at the Ou Meul is a must and will energize you for the return leg of the race. \nFor those persons returning to do the event for a second time\, please note a change in start/finish venue which will now be at the newly opened Hub & Spoke MTB Café in DS Botha Street. \nGreyton Village market has grown in stature since last year and will provide a great interlude for family and friends not taking part in the event\, along with all the other attractions and entertainment offerings in the village. \nLook out for accommodation specials in Greyton Village for Pie Run participants if you are planning to spend the weekend in Greyton. \nProceeds from the race are used for the local kids cycling development program which has been running for six years and provides cycling equipment\, cycling outings and MTB training for youngsters from our local community. \nLate entries will be accepted on race morning with a late entry fee of R50. \nRace briefing will take place 15 minutes before the start of each batch.

SUMMARY:Steeple CX Cup Race Series #7
DESCRIPTION:Whether it’s a CX\, gravel or MTB bike you own\, the Steeple CX Cup cyclocross series is short course off-road racing at its best. Races last no longer than 30 mins for the social riders and 45 minutes for the racing class. But don’t think it’s easy… it’s fast\, furious and a whole lotta adrenaline-fuelled fun. \nWhat is cyclocross all about? \nSteeple	CX Cup is all about bringing the rich hertitage	of cyclocross to you with an African twist. Cyclocross has	its roots in northern France and Belgium where road riders would race across frozen fields and roads to	keep fit during winter. They often raced	between	towns with only	the church steeple as their guide. Rules were few\, and so	obstacles came into the	mix as riders took the	shortest route to the steeple. \nToday cyclocross or CX is raced all over the world on courses made up of mixed terrains	with obstacles.	Courses	are	2.5 to 3.5km long and races are	timed\, with times being	based on the course difficulty on the day. \nThis exciting form of racing offers a unique format with undulating courses which test bike skills and deliver fitness	gains like nothing else. All this while	having	fun\, racing your mates and challenging for better seeding	and overall series points. \nCyclocross bikes are the most effective	weapons of choice\, but CX does not discriminate	and so all geared bikes	are	allowed.

SUMMARY:Steeple CX Cup Race Series #1
DESCRIPTION:It’s winter time and the second\, expanded 7-event season of the Steeple CX Cup cyclocross series kicks off this Sunday. Whether it’s a CX\, gravel or MTB bike you own\, this is short course off-road racing at its best.

SUMMARY:Amarider 50 & 100 Miler
DESCRIPTION:Is riding 100 miles off road on your bucket list? \nIf so\, the eleventh edition of The Amarider 100Miler\, presented by The Bike Hub is the perfect race to get it done. Held in Malmesbury on the 13th of April\, this race is the ultimate Swartland meander offering dirt road riding around the Kasteelberg and surrounds. \nWhat makes this the perfect 100 Mile intro? \nIt’s accessible. With the start and finish in Malmesbury you don’t have to bother with transport and you can drive to the start in the morning. Shop around\, this race offers great value and your entry fee includes on-route breakfast and lunch points. \nApart from a large race support contingent\, your supporters can assist you at 4 easy to reach Spectator points on the day. This makes it perfect for your family and friends to be part of the day and allows you to break your effort into achievable segments. \nThe route consists predominantly of flowing and fast-rolling dirt road. With 2400m of climbing over the day\, it certainly is not flat but very few riders struggle to make cut-off. \nThe cause. Proceeds of the race goes towards Amarider’s advocacy efforts and over the past years have made projects like the recent opening of new trails on Table Mountain possible. \nThis individual one-day mountain bike ultra-marathon of 160km is affordable and a very special event. From the humbling beginnings that grew in 2009 to what is now one of the must-do-events on the mountain biking calendar. The scenery is beautiful in the Swartland during Autumn and the riding is not technical. The weather conditions play a major role in testing your endurance\, as mud\, wind or rain do on most outdoor events. \nThis is a CSA Sanctioned event and CSA membership is required in order to start in the first starting group per distance. If you do not have CSA membership and would like to start in the first group please contact CSA and get your membership before entering. Please note all CSA and UCI rules apply. Read here! \nThis event will start early morning just as the sun is rising\, with astounding scenery that is spellbound to keep the legs going for many hours. Only pre-entries will be accepted for both distances. Entries are limited and remember that this is a seeding event for Stellenbosch MTB Challenge 2019. \nThe 160km (100Miler) route is divided into three sections of approximately 55km with two compulsory timing checkpoints. The format of the race creates perfect vantage points for spectators and support. While the competition is based on solo riders completing the entire course these riders can form 4-man teams and enjoy a day out with mates on a saddle (of course)! The team results will be based on the 4th rider crossing the line thereby encouraging teamwork and camaraderie. \nThe shorter route option: \nThe shorter route option of the 50Miler (80km)\, starts at the halfway mark at Riebeeck Kasteel and ends with the 100Miler riders at the Malmesbury Showgrounds. This event also provides an opportunity for keen riders to taste endurance riding along with twist and turns against the clock.

SUMMARY:SA To Host World's First 7-Day Gravel Stage Race
DESCRIPTION:The Rainmaker RollerCoaster\, the world’s first seven-day point to point gravel stage race\, will take place from 6-12 October 2018 in the Western Cape\, South Africa. \nThe RollerCoaster is the latest offering from HotChillee\, the cycling event group behind the renowned London-Paris and Cape Rouleur races. HotChillee has embraced the growing phenomenon of gravel riding over the past three years and have joined forces with digital disrupter Rainmaker Solutions\, the title sponsor of the inaugural event. \n\n\nThe RollerCoaster offers riders the chance to race 550km with 8000m of climbing from Swellendam to the coastal resort of Plettenberg Bay. Riders can take part in teams of two or can ride in small groups supported by the HotChillee Ride Captains. The event will be open to mountain bikes as well\, but the parcours will suit the speed of a gravel bike. There will be jersey and age category awards. \n“I was hooked on my first gravel ride three years ago\,” said Sven Thiele\, HotChillee Founder. “Putting the RollerCoaster together over that period has been a wonderful experience and seeing the level of buy in by locals\, authorities\, riders and sponsors indicates that gravel racing and riding will be the new wave of cycling. The route between Swellendam and Plettenberg Bay will stand out as the finest and toughest gravel race in the world. \n“South Africa\, and the Western Cape in particular\, is ideally suited to gravel riding with its quiet\, long and safe district roads that connect towns\, villages and farms. There are challenging climbs and the terrain and scenery is some of the most beautiful in the world. It combines the best aspects of road and mountain bike riding\, but at the same time imparts a unique cycling experience that we believe takes this wonderful sport to a new\, exciting level.” \nImage supplied\nThe RollerCoaster begins with a sunset time trial in the Bontebok National Park\, Swellendam\, a few hours drive from Cape Town\, and will finish in Plettenberg Bay on the iconic Garden Route. Participants will stay overnight in tented race villages\, with upgrade accommodation packages available. \nImage supplied\nMinister Alan Winde\, Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities and a keen cyclist himself\, said the Rainmaker RollerCoaster would play an important part of the Western Cape’s plan to entrench the province as a preferred cycling tourism destination: “This project has been high on my agenda since launching the Cross Cape gravel routes.
