SUMMARY:Origin Of Trails MTB Experience

SUMMARY:7Passes
DESCRIPTION:The “Seven Passes MTB”\, powered by Toyota Knysna is back!  It’s happening on the 30th of November 2019.  The race start is on the Eastern side of George at the beautiful Glenwood House School. This route offers the perfect opportunity for gravel-bikers to take on the 29ers. E-bikers are also welcome on this non-technical route. Racing starts at 07H30 just before late registration between 06H00 and 07H00.  The first 5kms will roll as a neutral zone and only after the Old Kaaimans Bridge and once the lead Toyota vehicle and George Municipal traffic escort pulls away\, will the racing begin. The new start at Glenwood House gives riders official bragging rights for doing EIGHT\, yes\, 8 passes this year! The first dip being the Swartrivier Pass\, near the Garden Route Dam wall. \nSeven Passes MTB also offers a shorter route for younger or not so fit riders who still want to be part of the action.  Leeuwenbosch Dairies will once again support the 38km event which starts on Saturday morning from the Highlands Cash Store in the humble little village of Karatara. The start time for the shorter route is 09H30. \nLeaders of the longer 78km route are expected to pass the second water point\, located at the start of the 38km race and halfway between George and Knysna\, just before 09H30 \nThomas Bain was the legend who designed the road between George and Knysna in 1883 and experienced many challenges in the dense forest surrounds and also bumped heads with his brother-in-law\, Adam de Smidt with whom he shared the contract. On completion of the road the two never spoke again. The route crosses 10 rivers and 7 gorges between these two towns and passes through the quaint settlement of Rheenendal\, home to the brief gold rush in the 1880’s.  The final stretch into Knysna will lead riders over the red bridge and along the N2 to just after the first set of lights where riders will turn left and cross the Salt River following the road to ‘The Farm’ at the foot of the Simola Pass. \n‘The farm’ is a perfect place to enjoy a well-deserved Wood Fired pizza and any other delicious meal on the menu. Invite all your fans to watch you cross the line and enjoy the beautiful surrounds. A Pump track is available for kids to keep themselves busy while you enjoy the chilled atmosphere of this new finish venue. \nParticipants are invited to overnight in Knysna and join us and Knysna Sports School team for a supported ride back to George the next day.   You can leave your vehicle safely overnight at Glenwood House School.            A shuttle service will to available for overnight bags and will shuttle bags back to George on Sunday. The supported ride back to George on the Sunday morning will follow the Seven Passes route and is not a sanctioned event but rather a social ride\, chatting pace. A sweep vehicle will support the Sunday social ride back to George. \nClick here to enter online

SUMMARY:Cyclo Pro Fat Tracks Longmore Classic
DESCRIPTION:The Longmore Classic was established in 1996 as an annual mountain bike race set in the Longmore Forest plantation just outside Port Elizabeth. \nThere are 3 distances to choose from\, with varying degrees of difficulty\, meaning there’s something to suit everyone.\n\nThe 50km feature race is a tough one\, don’t let the relatively short distance fool you! Incorporating some challenging mountain biking terrain with plenty of climbing in the Longmore Forest\, you’ll be treated to spectacular views and rewarding downhills. A good portion of the route includes pristine\, purpose-built singletrack of the 3 Rivers Trails network. There are 4 water points on the 50km race route.\n\nThe 30km in-betweener is a great option for those who enjoy having some fun on the trails with a little less hill climbing. This route features proportionately more of the 3 Rivers Trails singletrack\, and less of the challenging climbs that are part of the 50km route. There are 3 water points on the 30km race route.\n\nThe 15km is a great introduction race for newcomers or those just wanting a shorter ride. This route excludes the challenging hills that are synonymous with Longmore Forest and rather takes in the scenery and trails around the Crossways Estate. There is 1 water point on the 15km route.\n\nThe 5km is a short\, easy ride through Crossways Farm Village. Children under 10 to be accompanied by an adult.\n\nGoody bags for first 500 entries.

SUMMARY:Plett MTB Festival
DESCRIPTION:Plett\, set in the iconic Garden Route\, is the new carbon of MTB event destinations. Single track\, jeep track\, farm road or forest canopy\, when it comes to grinding gears\, Plett is the place to do it. Get ready for a ‘TNT’ (Trail Not Tar) extravaganza! The Plett MTB Festival offers the whole family an opportunity to get involved in the fastest growing sport in Africa. Three days of nothing but mud\, sweat and gears\, and of course more fun than you can shake a stick at\, will see you spinning your cogs through farm lands and along coastlines. \nNow\, we know what you’re thinking… MTB race!!! …isn’t that tough? This is exactly where the Plett MTB Festival’s got your back. Riders from absolutely all levels of proficiency are welcome to test their mettle. From young saplings to gnarly root rockers\, the three-day festival is a celebration of MTB fun for ‘Fanie Flipflop’ to ‘Rodney Racesnake’. No excuses! Simply load the bikes and bring along the whole family for an event so exciting\, you’ll be giddy for days. \nSo\, what’s the plan\, Stan?\nFor our inaugural event\, we are taking riders through the verdant wonderland that is Cairnbrogie Dairy Farm. From cow pat grasslands\, to the ancient forests of MTO and SanParks\, there is no lack of breathtaking scenery or variety. Focused on the family as a whole\, means that there will be plenty to do for young and old. Delicious food aplenty\, Red Bridge Brewing Company and Phantom Craft Gin thrilling all with a tasty tipple or three and the little ones enjoying a little challenge of their own at the Cairnbrogie pump track\, will see this event calling you back for more. \nDay 1\, Saturday 14th December 2019. \nCairnbrogie will play host to most of our MTB activities this weekend. Registration starts at 11h00. Then the fun begins\, XCO for the youngsters\, age Categories from 10yrs up to 16yrs will be catered for\, throughout the afternoon\, starting at 15h00\, followed by a short prize-giving. At 18h00 there will be a short Race Briefing followed by the exciting and crowd-friendly Night XCO\, frenetic lap racing\, on a non-technical course. (No. of laps to be announced). Local beer on sale\, food trucks that will delight. Bring the whole family. Remember\, what happens in the dark\, STAYS in the dark. \nDay 2\, Sunday 15th December 2019. \nOne of the requests I receive most often on the Cycles in the Forest platform\, is a ride from Plett to Knysna\, or Knysna to Plett….and the Plett MTB Festival will be the FIRST to offer this ride as a Stage in an MTB race. This year it’s the ‘up ride’ Knysna to Plett. Racing will start at Kruisfontein (just outside Knysna) and will take you on an MTB journey that will blow your MTB socks off! The best of the Coastal Corridor\, iconic Harkerville single tracks\, jeep tracks and homeward bound back to Cairnbrogie. Not too technical\, and with distance and elevation gain that every rider will manage. (Watch the press for the inaugural ‘down ride’ next year). We finish this day back at our ‘home’ of Cairnbrogie. \nDay 3\, Monday 16th December 2019. \nAnd so\, we saved the best for last; the cherry on the proverbial Festival cake!! TWO distances\, 68km and 38km\, both out-and-back loops from Cairnbrogie. The longer route is also a Plett MTB Festival FIRST….on a race route NEVER used before\, so this will delight both locals and visitors alike. The shorter distance has been included so that younger riders\, and those feeling less energetic\, who start the event on Saturday\, can participate in the entire weekend’s racing. Festivities will continue at Cairnbrogie throughout the day\, with prize-giving in the afternoon.

SUMMARY:Attakwas Extreme
DESCRIPTION:South Africa’s toughest extreme one-day mountain bike race. \nFor the very brave we have the Momentum Health Attakwas Extreme MTB Challenge presented by Biogen\, 121km with a 2900m vertical ascent and for the not-so-faint hearted we have the Attakwas Half\, 52km with a 1100m vertical ascent. \n#SurviveAttakwas\nAn adventure through the desert and mountains of the Klein Karoo with a finish at the Garden Route Coast \nSouth Africa’s premier one-day mountain bike race will stage its 14th edition in 2020 – thirteen years since that inaugural event in 2007\, with a start list then\, shorter than the current crew list. Dryland took this task to hand with no idea where this would take them. South Africans and their appetite for tough endurance events projected the Attakwas into legendary and cult-like status over the next couple of years. This is the race to do if you want to test mind\, body and machine!

We aim to grow the Imbuko Big Five MTB Challenge in becoming THE benchmark event to test skill and endurance to compete in the ABSA Cape Epic and other international mountain bike races. \nThe route is designed by Pieter Van Wyk\, who worked on the route design team of the ABSA Cape Epic for many years. Five major climbs (Imbuko ‘Big Five’) will be the main challenges in the race and will take riders through the iconic single tracks of the surrounding mountains of Wellington. \nRiders can enter as solo\, male or female. The first 200 entries will receive a goody bag at registration. The whole family can join at the finish line\, where there will be food trucks\, music\, MTB stalls and much more to keep everyone entertained.

SUMMARY:The MTB Challenge\, formerly known as the Cape Town Cycle Tour
DESCRIPTION:Off-road racing at its very best\, the MTB Challenge hits the Cape Winelands on Saturday\, 29 February 2020\, and offers 15km\, 30km and 60km options for all fitness and skill levels. The event has been running alongside the Cape Town Cycle Tour for what will be 20 years in 2020 formerly known as the Cycle Tour MTB Challenge. In September 2019 the event was handed over to Pedal Power Association to organise. We have taken the decision to take the event back to its roots where is all began and return to the beautiful routes of Banhoek Conservancy where it was last held in 2013. The venue is will be Old Bethlehem Farm that is situated in Kylemore\, Stellenbosch. \nThe fun ride is aimed at all ages\, shapes\, sizes\, fitness levels and income groups. The event is open to PPA members as well as non-members. The event targets both existing cyclists and newcomers to the sport\, the average participant and newcomer\, as well as the elite sportswoman and sportsman. \nIn addition to the three routes on offer we will be bringing in the Bike4All mobile BMX track for the little ones to enjoy. Bike4All has a simple\, yet effective motto: PUTTING MORE PEOPLE ONTO BICYCLES. Many people think of bicycles in terms of sport or recreation; as a means to participate in road or off-road fun rides\, or simply to get fit and healthy. But the bicycle is the ideal vehicle for transportation\, especially for short trips to school\, shop or work. Through this project\, we aim to change mobility in South Africa. Their portfolio includes yet not restricted to; Bicycle and BMX distribution\, road safety and awareness\, helmet handout\, visibility\, bike mechanic training and community support. \nStart times and age restrictions: \n15km – start time from 08h20. Age: 8 years and older \n30km – start time from 07h50. Age: 15 years and older \n60km – start time from 07h00. Age: 15 years and older \n* Ensure you are ready at least 30 minutes before your start to get into the chutes.\n* The start groups. Note you will only get your start group after entries have closed

SUMMARY:Stanford MTB Classic
DESCRIPTION:On the weekend of the 29th February & 1st of March 2020 mountain bikers are invited to gather for two days of MTB fun at the Stanford MTB Classic. An event where entrants set their own personal goals\, and to us everyone is a winner! For the racing snakes who need a challenge and reward\, STRAVA sections will be incorporated on the routes\, and prizes will go to the overall winner of the Ladies and Men’s categories. This way everybody gets to have a good time on their Mountain bikes. The event boasts an amazing relaxed country village atmosphere\, spectacularly scenic riding through fynbos and farmlands\, and is hosted by the well-known and sought after Stanford Valley Guest farm. Be sure to join in the festivities at Stanford Valley. \nIt is an event for avid mountain bikers looking to reconnect with the by-gone spirit of the sport. For those who know how to have fun on and off their bikes. Mountain biking families can gather at Stanford Valley and the fitter members can ride the longer routes while the less serious can cruise through the short courses. Our aim is to create a relaxed vibe and experience on the bike\, but do not underestimate the challenge of the route. Riders need to have a reasonable level of fitness and skill to participate. \nPost-stage you can enjoy a delicious lunch with like-minded people before drifting off to your guesthouse or alternative accommodation.
