DESCRIPTION:This race proudly is the first MTB stage race in South Africa. The views while riding on these historic roads are extraordinary\, jaw-dropping and nail-biting all in one. It is known as the longest mountain pass in South Africa. \nThe overnight stop in The Hell means everybody stays together\, which makes for a great atmosphere. The uniqueness of the race village is ‘captured’ within the sheer remoteness of Gamkaskloof\, no electricity\, no cell reception\, no TV\, not even radio reception. \nIt was in 1995 that the first To Hell and Back took place. It came about from the love of riding and to popularise The Hell. If you would like to make it a weekend getaway they do have camping spots available as well as accommodation. \nThere will be secure parking available. \nTiming: \nThis event will be running on Strava for timing on your own accord. \nThis event is for a fun day out on your bicycle\, to enjoy the scenic route and for you to prepare for your next big upcoming sports event. \nRoute: \nEnsure you warm up good as the route starts with a 13km climb on an easy rolling gravel road with sandy patches. \nAfter this we have a short easy section before we turn right. This portion of the road is a hard rolling surface but its only for a short period. \nYou will then turn right again\, from here its nice rolling surface but beware of the climbs ahead. \nThe next right turn will take you on a short but loose rocky section and a nice long climb again\, the surface has some sandy spots but in general it’s nice and smooth. \nOn the next turn the surface stays smooth until we get to the descend\, its a nice long easy ride to the finish. \nFor more information and to enter\, click here

DESCRIPTION:There are this year THREE distances to choose from: \n\n140km Gravel Race\n100 kilometers\n55km’s fun ride\n\nPutting this route together has had many challenges but with help from landowners and a few seasonal gravel riders we managed to put something truly spectacular together.  Makadas Adventures\, MATA & Africa Game Lodge presents a route….. that is truly out of Africa.  Magical\, special\, unique\, and diverse are words that comes to mind. \nGravel Racing \nMore options this year with three distances to choose from: \n\n55km\n100km\n140km\n\n55km Fun Gravel Ride \nAlso take note that there is a School’s Challenge on this year at a reduced rate for learners.  The 55km Gravel Fun Ride will be used for the School’s Challenge and prizes for the 1st/2nd & 3rd men and ladies riders in. Total climb: 811m \n100km Gravel Race \nThe route for the 100km event traverses the stunning Africa Game Lodge and you will be spoiled to magnificent views and many different types of game: Eland\, Kudu\, Gemsbuck\, Giraffe etc. This route consists of multiple types of terrain. See the Makadas website for a breakdown.  Total climb: 1558m \n140km Gravel Race \nThis route had some minor changes and with the help from the riders from SALT and SQUIRT we were able fine tune it to make it more feasible for gravel bikes. SUMMARY:Ride the Rhenoster
DESCRIPTION:What is Ride the Rhenoster? \nEstablished in 2008 as a means to raise funds for conservation and showcase the natural beauty of the region\, Ride the Rhenoster is a one day trail ride through the Crocodile River Reserve\, a protected area on the doorstep of Joburg and Tshwane. \nOnce a year\, the landowners in the Crocodile River Reserve open up their properties for you to take a scenic MTB ride through the beautiful landscapes and views just 20 minutes from Fourways. \nRiders are able to discover the beauty of the reserve and the many secrets it hides\, from the mystery of ladybird castle to the old silver mine\, snake through beautiful single track and quiet district roads and discover the history of Koppie Alleen. \n\n\nSee for yourself \n\n\n\n\nIt is not a race for everyone\, to some\, it is about the journey. \nRiders will be able to follow a predetermined route with multiple feature stops along the way. Each feature stop includes a guide who will share the stories of the land and its features with you. Joining the ride ensures your contribution to conserving this precious landscape with its rare and special fauna and flora. \nRide the Rhenoster is open only once a year to a small field of 300 Riders. The 40km route is a diverse technical trail. The 20km\, although still challenging\, has been set up with novice riders in mind. We welcome the use of E-bikes but suggest only experienced e-bike riders take on the 40km route. \nFor more information and to enter\, click here
