SUMMARY:Steeple CX Cup Race Series #6
DESCRIPTION:Whether it’s a CX\, gravel or MTB bike you own\, the Steeple CX Cup cyclocross series is short course off-road racing at its best. Races last no longer than 30 mins for the social riders and 45 minutes for the racing class. But don’t think it’s easy… it’s fast\, furious and a whole lotta adrenaline-fuelled fun. \nWhat is cyclocross all about? \nSteeple	CX Cup is all about bringing the rich hertitage	of cyclocross to you with an African twist. Cyclocross has	its roots in northern France and Belgium where road riders would race across frozen fields and roads to	keep fit during winter. They often raced	between	towns with only	the church steeple as their guide. Rules were few\, and so	obstacles came into the	mix as riders took the	shortest route to the steeple. \nToday cyclocross or CX is raced all over the world on courses made up of mixed terrains	with obstacles.	Courses	are	2.5 to 3.5km long and races are	timed\, with times being	based on the course difficulty on the day. \nThis exciting form of racing offers a unique format with undulating courses which test bike skills and deliver fitness	gains like nothing else. All this while	having	fun\, racing your mates and challenging for better seeding	and overall series points. \nCyclocross bikes are the most effective	weapons of choice\, but CX does not discriminate	and so all geared bikes	are	allowed.

The area is also becoming known as an adventure sport destination. Events like the Ebenezer Mile\, the Wolkberg Stage Trail Run\, the Iron Crown Trail Run\, The Wik Triathlon and the single day Magoebaskloof Mountain Bike Classic are growing every year.

SUMMARY:Steeple CX Cup Race Series #7

SUMMARY:Toyota Forklift Spring Classic
DESCRIPTION:Going into the event’s 24th year\, the Toyota Forklift Spring Classic provides a combination of a challenging ride in the 45km while still catering for beginner riders in the 25km and 10km distances. If you would like to be part of the history of mountain biking in South Africa\, enter the Toyota Spring Classic now! \n\n2019 Route Details\n\n\nAll routes start and finish at the beautiful Avianto Clubhouse on the opposite side of the river from the famed Avianto wedding venue. This is a fantastic venue for the event and is becoming a mecca for mountain biking and trail running. The wildlife that calls the area home is simply remarkable\, considering we are still in Joburg. Look out for jackals\, buck and some incredible bird life. \nThere are only small improvements to the route for 2019\, so for those of you that did the 2018 course\, you can expect virtually the same fantastic course\, with a few adjustments to make it just a little bit better. \nThe first 10 kilometers are contained in the Avianto Estate land\, starting with wide roads and jeep track\, meandering around horse paddocks and crossing over some of the dams. Overtaking in the first 5km will be a breeze sorting out the racing snakes from the fun riders.  It gets slightly more challenging after that with a short koppie thrown in\, which leads the riders back into the clubhouse area where spectators can get a quick view of the race. Riders then tackle “the wall” a short climb that is rewarded with a flowing single-track decent. The 10km riders are then treated to a great section of track next to the crocodile river which follows the river line and provides a rewarding scenic route back into the start/finish area \nThe 45km and 25km riders head of towards the N14 highway to tackle some fast district roads and some fun single-tracks. A slight reprieve awaits the riders in the Driefontein Waterworks with some fast dirt roads\, a fast dirt road descent takes the riders back towards the Syringa Motocross Track. After a refreshing Biogen waterpoint the 45km and 25km riders head up Clinic road\, towards Beyers Naude\, some great footpaths\, complete the journey to Beyers Naude and after crossing back over Clinic road about 2km of fast swopping single-track awaits the riders adjacent to the N14 highway. After a quick tour around the fence line of the Le Jardin estate\, riders then head back along the river towards the clubhouse\, 25km riders head towards the finish\, while 45km riders cross over the river at Avianto and through some new single-track towards the chapel Calvert. After crossing under Driefontein road\, riders must settle in for a 2km climb\, with a mix of jeep track and single-track sections\, once at the top a quick u-turn send the riders back down a fast single-track descent\, the route then flows along the top of the koppie treating riders to great views of the Cradle area\, another descent towards Driefontein sees riders head towards Phambili. Another Biogen waterpoint tops the riders up with the necessary to get to the finish. \nPhambili  is just short of an MTB paradise\, with great single-track and jeep track sections\, and some challenging climbs are thrown in for good measure. We have added an extra 4km section in Phambili\, which will test the skills of our 45km riders. After exiting Phambili\, riders must cross underneath Driefontein road again and into the Syringa Spa ruins\, some cool urban sections await\, along with some great single-track. Riders will cross back over the Avianto bridge where they will be able to smell the finish-line\, as they are almost home free. \nThe route is a good mix of open jeep track\, district road and lots of great single-track\, the climbs are tough but the descents make it worth it. \n\n

This event is organised by The Piket-Bo-Berg Residents Association\, the local NPO. All the funds raised through this event are invested in skills development and education\, creating a better future for all in our community. \nWe look forward to sharing our small-town hospitality with you\, while you enjoy some of the best trails on offer. \nPLEASE NOTE NO E-BIKES ALLOWED. \nNo E-go… Indeed\, after some deliberation a final call was made NOT to allow E-bikes at the Piket-Bo-Berg Cycle Challenge. The reasons are simple – due to the technical nature of the trails and the large amount of singletrack (which run through very remote mountainous areas) we would like to avoid congestion as far as possible – our trails don’t always allow for passing. Taking into account the speeds of E-bikes\, rider safety is another big concern on our technical sections. We trust you understand. However\, do stay tuned to our social channels and join our mailing list to be notified of possible future e-bike events. \nCLOSING DATE: \n\n04 September 2019.\n\nClick here for more info and to enter online

SUMMARY:The Rock Stage Race and Trail Fest
DESCRIPTION:The inaugural Rock Stage Race and Trail Run Festival took place in 2018 with the stated aim of establishing Paarl’s signature MTB and Trail Run weekend. The event was an incredible success and is now a permanent feature on the calender. The 2019 event takes place over the weekend of 27-29 September\, hosted at the beautiful Spice Route Destination and Rhebokskloof Estate on the slopes of the Paarl Moutain. \nThe 2019 Rock Stage Race and Trail Festival is the very fortunate benefactor of a strategic partnership between Hero Adventure and the City of Drakenstein and will have access to more than 200km of trails on the magnificent Paarl Mountain over the weekend of 27-29 September. At an entry fee of R1350 per rider the event has positioned itself as the ideal training ride for the FNB Wines2Whales\, which takes place a month later. \n“We really can pick and choose from the trails for The Rock this year and the end result is that more than 80% of the route will be on single track\,” said race director Darren Herbst from Hero Adventure. “We have been building trails on the Paarl Mountain for the past two years and it’s going to be wonderful to showcase the latest additions to these trails during The Rock.” Entries for The Rock are limited to 500 riders and just over 250 entries have already been received.
