SUMMARY:Cape Classic 380
DESCRIPTION:The Cape Classic will be based in Montagu\, in the Western Cape on the famous Route 62\, each day starting at the Mimosa Lodge\, Church Street. \nDay 1 : The Koo Valley – out and back\n5 November 2021 7:00 am Start from Mimosa Lodge\nRiders will assemble at the start venue and ride up the majestic Koo valley where the formidable Burgers and Rooihoogte passes await. In between two climbs will be a light hearted time trial of 7.5kms for those who wish to compete for the sponsor’s prizes and also to beat the sponsor’s own average speed record of 52.9kmph set in 2018. The Stage is 100km long and involves a total climb of 1500m. We will ride as a peloton but given the nature of the climbs and descents some splintering of the groups will be inevitable.\nA little known but beautiful valley\, little used but with good road surfaces provides two challenging climbs on the way out and a lightning fast descent on the way back to a water point at Oupa Batt se Winkel. Then a 39km cruise back to Montagu for lunch and jersey presentations. \nDay 2: The Tradouws\n6 November 2021 7:00 am Start from Mimosa Lodge\nWe head out of Montagu again through the Cogmans Kloof Pass and turn left before Ashton towards Swellendam At 35km we join the final part of the Coronation Double Century route passing over Bakoondhoogte Pass and those rolling roads. Negotiating Swellendam with the assistance of Swellendam Provincial Traffic department will see us on the N2 before turning for Suurbraak and the stunning Tradouw Pass. After turning left onto the R62 a further 12km will see us at our lunch stop at Joubert-Tradauw wine farm. Straight after lunch comes the climb of Op de Tradouw and its fast descent towards Montagu. The longest stage at 160km and 1870m of climbing will be challenging but rewarding. \nDay 3: A Cruise around the Breede River\n7 November 2021 7:00 am Start from Mimosa Lodge\nFor 2021\, the route is being varied\, reducing the time spent on the R60 and cutting out the final climb over Remhoogte. It continues to loop around the Breede River from Montagu towards Robertson but now turns left at Arabella avoiding the stretch of R60 to the Robertson circle. \nWe will cross the Breede at the trestle bridge as usual\, heralding the start of the 14 km Points Jersey section\, which finishes just before our water point at Bonnievale Cellars. After the drift bridge at Drew we turn left back through Bonnievale\, returning to Montagu via Arabella and Ashton. Finishing in Montagu at the Kloof Padstall for a champagne reception\, lunch and prizegiving\, the stage will be 106km long with approximately 770m of climbing.

SUMMARY:Sun City Cycle 4 Cansa
DESCRIPTION:Since its inception in 1998\, the Cycle4CANSA Road Classic has distinguished itself with its emphasis on road safety\, excellent medical emergency services\, a stunning venue\, good value for money and one of the fastest and most scenic routes through the North West Province. \nThe increased uptake in the entry field was evident with the change back to the traditional route four years ago and the change has stood the race in good stead ever since. The route is fast and flat and a manageable post Winter challenge. \nThe race offers three distances – 103km\, 70km and 10km. The change back to the original race route and moving the road race to the Sunday has created a much safer and controlled race management environment.  There is a dramatic decrease in traffic on Sunday mornings compared to Saturday mornings. \nThe Cycle4CANSA Road Classic has seen thousands of cyclists over the years achieve their personal best in a 100km event\, courtesy of the flat and fast route\, and this contributes massively to the popularity of the race. \nThe Cycle4CANSA Road Classic is a premier seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour and the event has become famous for offering a fun-filled family day with loads of prizes\, competitions and activities. \nAll cyclists gain free access to Sun City\, the Valley of Waves as well as the Maze of the Lost City and the SA Sports Hall of Fame on race day. Entries are also accompanied by various promotional freebees.

SUMMARY:aQuellé Tour Durban (Road & MTB) [POSTPONED]
DESCRIPTION:The organisers of the aQuellé Tour Durban cycle race have taken the decision to postpone the 2020 edition of the Durban classic to a date later in the year\, following the national government state of disaster announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last night in response to the coronavirus pandemic. \n“We are working with the relevant role players in a bid to locating a suitable weekend in spring that can host the two days of events as planned. We will do all in our power to ensure that the event\, which clearly has a very large following\, can go ahead\, and at the same time to retain the benefit to The Domino Foundation that is the beneficiary of the race. \n\nThe road races will take place on the 26th April 2020\, once again coinciding with the Freedom Day long weekend\, and will include a new 115km elite classic\, and a new 90km race to go with the popular 45km ride on the M4 on full road closure. \nThe cyclocross event has been replaced with two new MTB races to be held on Saturday 25 April\, starting and finishing at the Cornubia Mall. \nAnother new addition to the programme on Saturday 25 April is a race for the athletes from districts each training centre run by the KwaZulu-Natal Cycling Development programme. \nSaturday will also see a new junior race and a kids trike race at Cornubia Mall for the younger riders keen to get in on the action of the weekend of cycling events. \nThe revised program is aimed at offering an expanded choice of rides for cyclists that have supported this popular event in the past. \nNew event director Alec Lenferna says the 115km route is aimed at providing a challenge for the elite men’s field that always supports the Durban classic as well as the fitter cyclists. \nHe added that the route\, designed in close conjunction with the city’s traffic management team\, would take riders into a new section of the city. \n“It is essentially a reverse of the old 100km route\,” he said. “From the race headquarters at Moses Mabhida Stadium it heads north up the M4 past Mdloti and turning at the Watson Highway circle before heading back towards Durban. \n“Then we turn onto Riverside Road and then along North Coast Road and onto Queen Nandi Drive and cross the Mgeni River on the new Super Highway into Pinetown before descending on the M7 and returning to the finish on the South Coast freeway\,” he explained. \nThe new 90km race would create a new option for riders who had comfortably finished the 45km race in the past and are looking for a new challenge. Both the 45km and 90km races will use the popular M4 lap from Moses Mabhida to Mdloti and back. This is also the route that will accommodate the various racing women’s groups. \nThe race remains steadfastly geared towards raising money for the Domino Foundation\, that runs a variety of programmes aimed at supporting\, uplifting and empowering the Amaoti community north of the city. \n“That is what makes this race special\,” said Lenferna. “It is a chance for Durbanites to join cyclists from around the country to enjoy riding the roads under full road closure\, on a long weekend\, and in the reliably good Autumn weather\, the whole time knowing that they are making a massive difference to the lives of the people supported by the Domino Foundation.” \nTo enter the road races\, click here:\nhttp://www.cycleevents.co.za/road-events/aquelle-tour-durban-2020/ \nTo enter the MTB races\, click here:\nhttp://www.cycleevents.co.za/mtb-events/aquelle-tour-durban-mtb-challenge-2020/

SUMMARY:Cycle Lab Maluti Double90 [POSTPONED]
DESCRIPTION:In the light of the current COVID-19 pandemic and the ban on gatherings over 100 people enforced by government\, the 2020 Cycle Lab Maluti Double 90 powered by Biogen will be postponed until further notice. We are not going to cancel the event but adopt the mindset of waiting until we are able to put the event on. This means that all current entries remain active until a new date can be confirmed.  Due to the cost of the event\, no refunds will be given to teams who decide to cancel their entry but we hope that no-one will need to cancel their entry.  If a team cannot make the event on the new date then they have the option of doing a substitution at no cost or\, if not able to find a substitute team\, unfortunately their entry will be forfeited.  We pledge to give at least 2 months warning as to when a new date will be promulgated.  Right now we have no guidance on a new date as we must wait until the various gathering restrictions have been relaxed. We do understand the frustration for everyone with the pandemic unfolding but we ask for patience as we do our best to find a suitable alternative date\, which will depend on availability on calendars\, venues etc.  We ensure riders that we are doing our best to honour the event and the entries the best we can. Yours in cycling \n\nThe Maluti Double90 is a team time trial over 180 km. The event takes place on Saturday 18 April 2020 and is limited to 120 teams. Teams can enter up to 12 riders per team\, with the time of the 6th rider across the finish line being taken as the official team time. \nTeams can enter one of three categories: \n\nFemale\nMixed (minimum of 3 riders of the opposite sex in the first 6 finishers)\nOpen (any combination of gender)\n\nEarly bird entries open on Tuesday 9 July for a limited time period.  Please click on the ENTER NOW tab on the homepage for more information about the early bird entries. \nThe start and finish will be at the President Square\, Clarens. The route will take teams from Clarens to Bethlehem to follow the R26 before turning right onto the undulating R714 towards Warden and Eenzaamheid. Thereafter it’s a right turn onto the R57 towards Kestell before the last stretch on the R712 which includes a tough hilly section through the Golden Gate national park. The route is generally undulating\, with some steep and tough hills in the last 40 km. This is not a ride for beginners. \n\nStart time: 06h30\nCut-off at the finish line: 16h30\n\nTeams will start with 30 second intervals and have up to 9 hours in which to complete the event. A cut-off will be implemented at the Supporter Zone in Kestell (107 km). Additional cut-offs may also be implemented en route. Your team’s time will ‘keep ticking’ while they refuel at the Supporter Zone and there will be no “time-out” period. \nTeams will be seeded prior to the event\, with the start times published on the website prior to the event. \nIt is not an easy ride and teams are encouraged to put in the training miles\, taking into consideration the average altitude of roughly 1900m and elevation gain of over 2200m for the event. \nIn line with all events organised and overseen by the PPA\, the Maluti Double90 will fully comply with all relevant local and national legislation.

SUMMARY:Joburg Classic
DESCRIPTION:The Joburg Classic constitutes a brand-new signature mass participation road cycling race for Gauteng and takes place on 29 March 2020. \nProceeds from the event go to the Hectic Promotions charities as well as CANSA . \nThe venue for the event is the impressive GOG Lifestyle Park just off Malibongwe Drive in Lanseria and the route offers distances over 95km\, 45km and 20km. \nThe venue is perfectly central for riders from both Joburg and Pretoria. It sits on the corner of the first intersection towards Honeydew from the Malibongwe off-ramp off the N14 Krugersdorp Freeway. \nHectic Promotions boasts a proven record of accomplishment in presenting mass participation cycling events which fulfil the requirements of our sponsors and stakeholders. \nWe are recognised by Cycling South Africa and the cycling public as one of South Africa’s foremost cycling event organisation companies and we boast a history of presenting prestigious events on the national cycling calendar. \nWe will work tirelessly to implement the successful blueprint of the Tshwane Classic on its counterpart to create a safe cycling environment and consequently vest the Joburg Classic as a signature mass participation event on the South African sporting landscape. \nThe race will be bolstered in various ways with our logistical experience and it will attract the country’s top professionals. Through our extensive marketing campaign\, we hope that the event will attract a significant participation base and grow to in excess of 12 000 riders within three years. \nTHE VENUE \nThe event venue at the GOG Lifestyle Park in Lanseria presents ample parking\, ablutions and catering facilities to accommodate a mass participation cycling event. \nALL RIDERS AND THEIR FAMILIES RECEIVE FREE ENTRANCE INTO THE PARK FOR THE DAY! \nGOG Lifestyle Park boasts a wide array of activities which will keep families entertained throughout the day. For more info on the venue go to https://gog.co.za/lifestyle-parks/ \nTHE DATE \nThe date of 29 March 2020 falls within a delightful sunny time of the year two weeks following the Cape Town Cycle Tour. This ensures that Gauteng based riders who take part in the Cape Town Cycle Tour can also take part in the Joburg Classic. \nDISTANCES TO CATER FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY \nThe allure of the Joburg Classic is locked into the wonderful road conditions on a beautiful route\, a brilliant family orientated venue as well as the venue’s vicinity to the major cycling catchment area represented by both Johannesburg and Pretoria. \nThe race presents a feature 95km distance while 45km and 20km distances are also presented to make the event as inclusive as possible. We also have a kids’ event for pre-school and primary school children to complete the picture. \nWONDERFUL SUPPORT FROM JOBURG METRO POLICE AS WELL AS MOGALE CITY \nWith all local government structures in Tshwane supporting the establishment of the Tshwane Classic and Diamond Classic\, we have a keen understanding of how the extent of city servives’ support directly impact on the remarkable success of these events. \nSimilar support from the Johannesburg Metro and Mogale City to create a safe cycling environment will enable the success of the race. \nWe look forward to establishing this wonderful bike race\, which will add immense value to the Joburg Metro and its residents \nROUTE DESCRIPTION – A SPECTACULAR ROUTE!\n \nThe Joburg Classic signature 95km distance offers a well-balanced route with 1100 metres of vertical ascent. It’s challenging and interesting throughout and the climb back to Malibongwe on the Elandsdrift Road presents the major obstacle before the finish. \nThe route has been designed to offer two shorter distances as well over 45km and 20km and the starting times for these distances have been worked out nicely so that the short distance riders join after the fast groups in the 95km at the joining points. \nRiders will be familiar with some sections of the 95km route\, which also form part of the Berge en Dale race\, but the Joburg Classic doesn’t include the Hillsnacks or Sterkfontein climbs and it cuts out the dangerous Brandvlei Road. \nThe route goes into the Cradle via Malibongwe and a left turn onto Elandsdrift Road. It turns left into Beyers Naude and almost immediately right into the R374 which runs past the prestigious Avianto Lodge. \nAt the Rhino and Lion Park Traffic Circle the route takes the first exit and then turns right at the Kromdraai cash store. It links up with the Hekpoort road and does a clockwise loop past Maropeng\, returning via the Magaliesberg Road. \nRiders get back onto the Hekpoort Road\, but just briefly before linking up with Hendrik Potgieter extension (N14) at the Engen garage and then a left turn at Letamo Estate to meet up with the in-bound route at the Kromdraai Cash store. \nIt then uses the same route on which the race started in the morning to get back to the venue\, but in the opposite direction. \nThe 20km route starts on Malibongwe Drive and turns left towards the Cradle after the Lanseria Airport turn-off\, and left again at the traffic circle before the Cradle Restaurant to join the 95km route on the way back at Valverde. \nThe 45km route follows the same routing as the 20km ride\, but turns back at the Rhino and Lion Park Circle where it joins the 95km route on the way back. \nClick here to enter

SUMMARY:Cape Town Cycle Tour
DESCRIPTION:It is now one of the world’s leading cycle events\, but when Bill Mylrea\, John Stegmann and Louis de Waal first proposed the Argus Tour\, it was meant to be a protest ride to ‘encourage’ the city council to think about bicycles as part of its urban planning\, and look after cyclists on the (by 1978 standards) busy roads. As such\, the event failed spectacularly for decades\, but what a wonderful deviation from those goals it has become. The irony is that cycling has become so big in South Africa\, thanks to the Cape Town Cycle Tour\, that those dreamy objectives are now being realised across the city in the form of bike lanes\, and cycle safety projects within and beyond the city limits.

SUMMARY:Takealot Berge & Dale
DESCRIPTION:The 2020 Berge & Dale is held annually on the west rand of Johannesburg\, Gauteng. It is an Official Premier Seeding Event of the 2021 Cape Town Cycle Tour\, presenting distance options over 109km and 60km. \nThese are a few of the reasons why the 21st edition of the Takealot Berge en Dale is going to be the best one yet. \nProtearif Primary School will play host from 2020 onwards and we can’t wait to show what we have in store for you. \nBased on your feedback we had no choice but to reconsider our route and venue options. Mogale traffic department also advised us to consider a less traffic laboured route\, and we went to work. What we have created will be very similar to the 2019 edition in terms of distance\, but the experience will be brand new. To continue the legacy of an ever challenging Berge & Dale\, the 2020 edition will be no different. Yes\, we also think it’s kind of mean\, but the first 90km is SO flat that we hope your legs are warm enough for the finale up Honingklip (Sterkfontein Climb). \nClick here to enter online
