SUMMARY:Tshwane Diamond Road Classic
DESCRIPTION:The Tshwane Diamond Classic\, presented by Hectic Promotions (a non-profit organisation)\, is a brand-new National Classic road race for Gauteng! \nHectic Promotions annually present the Bestmed Cycle4CANSA and the Tshwane Classic\, in association with Jacaranda FM. Since its incorporation into the Tshwane Metro\, Cullinan represents the perfect location for a mass participation road cycling event with delightfully quiet roads with good road surfaces\, and it’s situated only 30km from the centre of Pretoria. \nThe event starts and finishes at the impressive Baviaanspoort Correctional Facility. The date falls within a wonderful climate time on the Highveld when Fall temperatures are mild and the chances of rain slim\, ensuring that the race optimises the potential participant base. \nThe race will boast a prize fund of R20 000. \nThe road race presents a feature 110km distance while a 50km fun ride distance also forms part of the weekend to make the event as inclusive as possible. \nWe also have a kids’ event and a fun walk inside the correctional facility terrain to complete the picture. \nThe traction of the Tshwane Diamond Classic is locked into the delightful and quiet Sunday morning road conditions around Cullinan as well as the Tshwane Metro’s support and the town’s vicinity to the major cycling catchment area represented by Johannesburg and Pretoria. \nRoute Description: \nSince its incorporation into the Tshwane Metro\, vast sections of the roads in and around Cullinan have been consistently resurfaced. Years ago\, the town hosted many recognised road rides\, but as road surfaces deteriorated it became less and less suited to hosting road races. \nThis has changed over the past two years and our route designer\, David Labuschagne\, has put together a delightful route which is safe\, challenging\, and which ticks all the boxes to make effective route control possible. Labuschagne heads up Pretoria’s largest cycling club\, The Bestmed Bicycle Company\, and his club has committed to coming out in full force on race day. \nThe 110km route presents 1030metres of elevation gain and is mildly undulating\, except for a sharp climb on the outskirts of Cullinan at the Petra Diamond Mine up to the 18km mark\, which is set to stretch the bunches early on. \nThe route starts on Zambezi Drive (R513) towards Cullinan from the Baviaanspoort Correctional and runs from Cullinan towards Rayton and Bronkhorstspruit. \nFrom Bronkhortspruit it loops back to Cullinan anti-clockwise to ensure predominantly left turns and then does a final loop around Cullinan before joining up with Zambezi Drive again to finish in the opposite direction to the start. \nThe 50km route presents 561metres of vertical ascent and cuts out the long-distance loop towards Bronkhorstspruit and back. \nThe split/join point for the two distances is in Cullinan. \nActivities at the Venue: \nA kids’ race (3-4 year-olds and 5-7 year-olds) and 5km fun walk for the entire family is presented in conjunction with the road race at Baviaanspoort. Participants can enter on the morning at the Rugby Stadium Race Office for a R10 donation towards the upkeep of the facility. \nThe kids race and 5km fun walk will start at 08h00. \nIt is a stated aim of the event to incorporate the entire family\, and the kids’ races are always very popular at our events. It is the highlight for many families. Kids take part\, and everyone is a winner with every child receiving a medal and goody bag. \nAmple drinks and eats will be on sale at the venue – the catering is done masterfully by Correctional Services – while ample ablutions and parking are available at the facility’s rugby stadium. Clubs can also erect gazebos on the rugby field from early morning. \nBaviaanspoort Correctional boasts beautifully shaded braai facilities surrounding the dam and riders can bring their “dop en tjop” along to braai on the banks of the dam – entrance to the dam is a donation of R20 towards the upkeep of the facility.

SUMMARY:The Bell of Hope Cycle Challenge for Mental Wellness
DESCRIPTION:The Bell of Hope Cycle Challenge for Mental Wellness was put together to raise funds to sustain Ebenezer Psychiatric Home\, a non-profit organization. \nEbenezer Psychiatric Home is a non-profit organization that takes care of functional mentally ill adults who have been diagnosed with and who suffer from Bipolar or Schizophrenia. \nOur home relies on monthly bed subsidies paid by the Department of Health. Unfortunately these are irregular and this leaves the home in a very precarious financial position. \nAlternative ways to raise funds for the home’s survival became vital and so the annual Bell of Hope Cycle Challenge for Mental Wellness was put together. This cycle challenge is in honour of National Bipolar Day (26 May). \nThe secondary purpose of this event is to create awareness and make an effort to remove the stigma attached to mental illness. \nThe history behind the “Bell of Hope” begins in the 16th Century. The treatment of the mentally ill was horrific to say the least and leaves one aghast at the tireless vicious psychological and physical beatings they received. \nIn the 16th Century the mentally ill were victims of witch hunts and were bound in iron chains and shackles. By the end of the 17th Century\, mentally ill patients were seen as an organic physical phenomenon\, no longer involving the soul or morale of the patient. They were viewed as insensitive wild animals resulting in the use of restraints in chains\, as this was seen as being therapeutic and supposed to suppress animal passions. \nThe realization of the inhumane and animalistic treatment only emerged in the 1950’s in the USA\, when they issued a call to all mental institutions across the USA to melt down their shackles and chains that bound the mentally ill for more than a century and recast them into a BELL – the bell is a symbol of hope. \nClick here to enter

SUMMARY:PPA Sportive # 4
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a morning out on your bike with your friends and family. If you’ve done it before\, why not challenge yourself to improve your previous results and aim for a personal best. If it’s your first time\, you’re in for a treat with stunning views of the Paarl and Swartland winelands! \nRegistration will take place on Sunday\, 28 April 2019 from 06h00 at Simonsvlei Winery.\n\nMORE ABOUT THE SPORTIVE SERIES \nThis series of fun rides is aimed at all cyclists\, from beginners to experienced riders\, and offers the perfect platform if you want to keep fit riding road events throughout the year\, improving your times and setting a new personal bests. \nIf you’re brave enough to take on the challenge of the longer routes\, the series is a great test for endurance and stamina … and needless to say\, completing all the events will be a great source of personal achievement. \nNo pressure though! Each one is also a standalone event\, so you don’t have to enter all in the Sportive Series. \nFollowing this event\, there will be four events remaining\, spread throughout the year: \nPPA Sportive #5: 2 June\, Perdeberg winery (109km/39km)\nPPA Sportive #6: 29 Sept\, Simonsvlei wine estate (97km/38km)\nPPA Sportive #7: 13 Oct\, Perdeberg winery (109km/39km)\nPPA Sportive #8: 1 Dec\, Simonsvlei wine (97km/38km) \nTHE SPECIAL FINISHER’S TROPHY \nThis year\, we have decided to do away with medals and do something more innovative and challenging – you’ll will get a beautiful 3D bicycle puzzle that you can assemble once you have have completed all the events. The way it will work is that after each event\, you will receive a few pieces of the trophy … complete all eight events and you can assemble the little road bike on a stand. \nHowever\, even you haven’t done all the Sportive Series events\, or won’t manage to do all the events\, you’ll still be able to buy the missing pieces at a very reasonable cost at the Sportive #8. We still want everyone to have that trophy to display at their home or office.

SUMMARY:PPA Mangaung Cycle Tour
DESCRIPTION:Early bird entries have opened for the biggest funride in the Free State\, the PPA Mangaung Cycle Tour. As in the past\, this iconic Free State event will again be a Premier Seeding Series event for the 2019 Cape Town Cycle Tour. \nThe 2018 PPA Mangaung Cycle Tour takes place in Bloemfontein on Sunday 4 November 2018. Cyclists can get ready for a great weekend of cycling. Those who are tough enough can take on the Bloem Mountain Bike Challenge hosted by Afri Adventures on Saturday 3 November as a warm-up for the road race on the Sunday. \n“We are looking forward to hosting cyclists from across the country at the event this year\,” said PPA CEO Robert Vogel. “The event should serve as a catalyst to grow road cycling in the province. We don’t want road cyclists to miss out on the opportunity of a local seeding series event” explained Vogel. \nThe Pedal Power Association\, a public benefit organisation\, is committed to encouraging more people to ride bicycles\, with a particular focus on utility cycling and youth cycling.PPA raises awareness for cyclist safety through its “Stay Wider of the Rider” campaign. Profits from the event will be invested in local cycling development projects in the Free State. \nLast year Jacques Greeff was the first male rider to cross the finish line in 2:34:18\, with Maude Elaine le Roux\, a triathlete\, taking the first female position with a time of 2:51:27. This year some fast times can be expected again. \nParticipants can enter one of two distances\, a 103 km route (which will be used as seeding for the 2018 Cape Town Cycle Tour)\, or a shorter 32 km route. \nMore detail on the routes will be published soon. \nDiscounted “Early Bird” entries will be available from 2 July 2018 to 10 August 2018\, where after normal entry fees apply. Late entries will be taken during registration on Saturday 3 November from 10h00 to 18h00 at the SA School of Armour\, Tempe Military Base.No post_id and/or template
