SUMMARY:Takealot Berge & Dale
DESCRIPTION:The 2020 Berge & Dale is held annually on the west rand of Johannesburg\, Gauteng. It is an Official Premier Seeding Event of the 2021 Cape Town Cycle Tour\, presenting distance options over 109km and 60km. \nThese are a few of the reasons why the 21st edition of the Takealot Berge en Dale is going to be the best one yet. \nProtearif Primary School will play host from 2020 onwards and we can’t wait to show what we have in store for you. \nBased on your feedback we had no choice but to reconsider our route and venue options. Mogale traffic department also advised us to consider a less traffic laboured route\, and we went to work. What we have created will be very similar to the 2019 edition in terms of distance\, but the experience will be brand new. To continue the legacy of an ever challenging Berge & Dale\, the 2020 edition will be no different. Yes\, we also think it’s kind of mean\, but the first 90km is SO flat that we hope your legs are warm enough for the finale up Honingklip (Sterkfontein Climb). \nClick here to enter online

SUMMARY:The MTB Challenge\, formerly known as the Cape Town Cycle Tour
DESCRIPTION:Off-road racing at its very best\, the MTB Challenge hits the Cape Winelands on Saturday\, 29 February 2020\, and offers 15km\, 30km and 60km options for all fitness and skill levels. The event has been running alongside the Cape Town Cycle Tour for what will be 20 years in 2020 formerly known as the Cycle Tour MTB Challenge. In September 2019 the event was handed over to Pedal Power Association to organise. We have taken the decision to take the event back to its roots where is all began and return to the beautiful routes of Banhoek Conservancy where it was last held in 2013. The venue is will be Old Bethlehem Farm that is situated in Kylemore\, Stellenbosch. \nThe fun ride is aimed at all ages\, shapes\, sizes\, fitness levels and income groups. The event is open to PPA members as well as non-members. The event targets both existing cyclists and newcomers to the sport\, the average participant and newcomer\, as well as the elite sportswoman and sportsman. \nIn addition to the three routes on offer we will be bringing in the Bike4All mobile BMX track for the little ones to enjoy. Bike4All has a simple\, yet effective motto: PUTTING MORE PEOPLE ONTO BICYCLES. Many people think of bicycles in terms of sport or recreation; as a means to participate in road or off-road fun rides\, or simply to get fit and healthy. But the bicycle is the ideal vehicle for transportation\, especially for short trips to school\, shop or work. Through this project\, we aim to change mobility in South Africa. Their portfolio includes yet not restricted to; Bicycle and BMX distribution\, road safety and awareness\, helmet handout\, visibility\, bike mechanic training and community support. \nStart times and age restrictions: \n15km – start time from 08h20. Age: 8 years and older \n30km – start time from 07h50. Age: 15 years and older \n60km – start time from 07h00. Age: 15 years and older \n* Ensure you are ready at least 30 minutes before your start to get into the chutes.\n* The start groups. Note you will only get your start group after entries have closed

SUMMARY:Stanford MTB Classic
DESCRIPTION:On the weekend of the 29th February & 1st of March 2020 mountain bikers are invited to gather for two days of MTB fun at the Stanford MTB Classic. An event where entrants set their own personal goals\, and to us everyone is a winner! For the racing snakes who need a challenge and reward\, STRAVA sections will be incorporated on the routes\, and prizes will go to the overall winner of the Ladies and Men’s categories. This way everybody gets to have a good time on their Mountain bikes. The event boasts an amazing relaxed country village atmosphere\, spectacularly scenic riding through fynbos and farmlands\, and is hosted by the well-known and sought after Stanford Valley Guest farm. Be sure to join in the festivities at Stanford Valley. \nIt is an event for avid mountain bikers looking to reconnect with the by-gone spirit of the sport. For those who know how to have fun on and off their bikes. Mountain biking families can gather at Stanford Valley and the fitter members can ride the longer routes while the less serious can cruise through the short courses. Our aim is to create a relaxed vibe and experience on the bike\, but do not underestimate the challenge of the route. Riders need to have a reasonable level of fitness and skill to participate. \nPost-stage you can enjoy a delicious lunch with like-minded people before drifting off to your guesthouse or alternative accommodation.

SUMMARY:Cape Town Cycle Tour
DESCRIPTION:It is now one of the world’s leading cycle events\, but when Bill Mylrea\, John Stegmann and Louis de Waal first proposed the Argus Tour\, it was meant to be a protest ride to ‘encourage’ the city council to think about bicycles as part of its urban planning\, and look after cyclists on the (by 1978 standards) busy roads. As such\, the event failed spectacularly for decades\, but what a wonderful deviation from those goals it has become. The irony is that cycling has become so big in South Africa\, thanks to the Cape Town Cycle Tour\, that those dreamy objectives are now being realised across the city in the form of bike lanes\, and cycle safety projects within and beyond the city limits.

SUMMARY:Absa Cape Epic [CANCELLED]
DESCRIPTION:The 17th edition of the Absa Cape Epic will take place from 15 to 22 March 2020 and will be as challenging as ever. Local and international mountain bikers will tackle the demanding eight-day race through South Africa’s Western Cape.  \nThe Absa Cape Epic must be completed by both members of a two-person team with only 650 teams allowed to ride the race. The route changes every year\, leading aspiring amateur and professional mountain bikers from around the world through roughly 700 untamed kilometres of unspoilt scenery and up 16 000m of vertical ascent. \nThe Absa Cape Epic is the most televised mountain bike race in the world and the only eight-day mountain bike stage race classed as hors catégorie by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI); this official UCI status makes it a highlight on the professional racer’s calendar. The Absa Cape Epic also attracts aspiring amateur riders wanting to test themselves against the best. It is a full-service race\, meaning that everything is taken care of from the start – all riders need to think about is riding.
