DESCRIPTION:The Knysna Cycle Tour MTB events have become bucket list events for cyclists worldwide because of the beautiful and challenging routes\, which are set up and managed for us every year by Leon Evans (Dr Evil)\, and include access to sections of privately owned property that are normally closed to the public. \nYou will ride through sections of the Knysna Forest and scenic farmland areas\, and be exposed to the beauty of the natural fauna and flora of the exquisite Garden Route\, while testing your skills to the maximum. \nAge limits have been adjusted to ensure that fun riders have the maximum amount of FUN. \nLast year\, a 30km Electric bike route was introduced\, the first E-bike event in the country\, which was a great success\, as well as the new route for the 15 km race\, called the Ashes Fun Ride in memory of the Knysna fires. DESCRIPTION:The Momentum Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour 115km Road Race is a seeding event for the 2019 Cape Town Cycle Tour. \n115 km Route Summary: Knysna – Sedgefield – Kleinkranz and then back to Knysna via Sedgefield and Karatara. \n115 km Route Overview: \nStart in Knysna and ride along the Knysna Lagoon road\, climb Kytersnek (150 m ascent) and descend into Gouna Valley\nProceed through Sedgefield past Swartvlei. Turnaround at KleinKranz +- 40 km from Knysna. Ride East back through Sedgefield +- 50 km. Turn North opposite the scenic Groenvlei Lake +- 60 km. There’s a steady climb past plantation (250 m assent) and forest to the turnaround just before the historic town of Karatara +- 82 km. Return to the N2 at Groenvlei +- 95 km. Climb the Kytersnek (heartbreak hill 150 m assent) final 2 km climb +- 104 km. Cruise East along the beautiful Knysna Lagoon road to the Knysna Finish. Total distance +- 115 km \nThe route does have some dangerous sections. DESCRIPTION:The first few kilometers of the Grahamstown to Sea include a climb up Mountain Drive from Grahamstown industrial area. There is a rocky single track down from the Toposcope which can be a bit hair raising for some. The decent down the valley on the Southwell road is steep but it is tarred. It is important to keep left and keep a slow pace in the blind corners. The rest of the route is on country road. It is mostly a lazy downhill but does include a couple of uphills. DESCRIPTION:The Lowveld Tour from 9 to 12 August 2018 will take place in Swadini this year. Traditionally the Tour took place around Graskop\, Mpumalanga\, but due to unsafe road conditions in that area\, the event was moved to a different venue.  The new routes will provide safe roads and a completely new challenge to the loyal cyclists that part-take in the Lowveld Tour every year.  It will also offer new-comers the opportunity to explore new routes in a safe and controlled environment.\nThe main feature of this Tour is stage 2\, when cyclists will face the route from Swadini towards Graskop\, leading through the Abel Erasmus Pass and JG Strijdom Tunnel.  This landmark is the link between the game reserves of Limpopo and the spectacular Blyde River Canyon of Mpumalanga\, giving cyclists the opportunity to travel on the actual route used by the gold rush pioneers in the late 1800’s.  Be warned though\, this route is not for the feint-hearted\, \nThe warm water swimming pool at Swadini\, a Forever Resort will welcome riders to relax in after a hard days’ cycling; perfect for the cold winter. \nApart from the accommodation at Swadini and Blyde Canyon Forever Resorts\, there are a number of guest houses in the area which will suit your accommodation requirements. DESCRIPTION:South Africa’s newest most exciting Team Road Cycle Racing and Team Moutain Bike Racing event will be held on the 10-12th August 2018 at Sugar Rush Park\, west of Ballito on the KZN North Coast.  \nThe Liberty 250 is a 3-Day Team Road Cycling stage race through the spectacular scenery of the rolling farmlands on the North Coast. Teams of 4 or 2 will compete over the 123km on Day 1\, 87km on Day 2 and 40km on Day 3. Days 1 & 2 feature several King of the Mountain sections and Day 3 features a sprint.  \nThe Liberty 150 is a 3-Day Team MTB stage race over new and existing trails of the magnificent Holla Trails based at Sugar Rush Park. Teams of 2 will tackle 65km on Day 1\, 53km on Day 2 and 32km on the final day. All events offer Male\, Female and Mixed team categories as well as a solo option.  \nBoth events will be timed and the entry fee includes your timing chip in the race pack. SUMMARY:XCOSA XCR (Relay) League Race #2
DESCRIPTION:The 2018 XCOSA XCR (Relay) League offers all levels of participation the excitement of competing in Cross Country Olympic (XCO). Similar to XCO\, XCR consist of mtb lap racing on short but carefully designed and “manicured” tracks that cater even for beginner riders. XCR is fun\, safe\, challenging and spectator friendly. All events hosted by XCOSA are CSA sanctioned and executed according to international regulations! \nParticipants enter and take part SOLO or in 2-4 member teams. Each SOLO rider and team must complete 8 x 5km laps\, battling it out for full honors in their respective categories. Categories range from 10-70 year old. Teams can constitute riders from similar or different genders and/or age categories. Teams with members from different age categories compete in the strongest member’s category. \nThe purpose of the 2018 XCOSA XCR (Relay) League is to 1) guide “newbies” into the exhilaration of XCO; and 2) determine the strongest XCO team by means of a XCR Team Performance Log! DESCRIPTION:The City of Tshwane is opening its roads to cyclists for its official mass participation single day road race – the Tshwane Classic – on 4 November 2018 over distances of 98km\, 60km and 20km as well as 500m and 5km for kids. \nPresented by Hectic Promotions\, the city closes the route to all traffic except cyclists to ensure a totally traffic free environment. DESCRIPTION:Early bird entries have opened for the biggest funride in the Free State\, the PPA Mangaung Cycle Tour. As in the past\, this iconic Free State event will again be a Premier Seeding Series event for the 2019 Cape Town Cycle Tour. \nThe 2018 PPA Mangaung Cycle Tour takes place in Bloemfontein on Sunday 4 November 2018.   Cyclists can get ready for a great weekend of cycling.  Those who are tough enough can take on the Bloem Mountain Bike Challenge hosted by Afri Adventures on Saturday 3 November as a warm-up for the road race on the Sunday. \n“We are looking forward to hosting cyclists from across the country at the event this year\,” said PPA CEO Robert Vogel.  “The event should serve as a catalyst to grow road cycling in the province.  We don’t want road cyclists to miss out on the opportunity of a local seeding series event” explained Vogel. \nThe Pedal Power Association\, a public benefit organisation\, is committed to encouraging more people to ride bicycles\, with a particular focus on utility cycling and youth cycling.PPA raises awareness for cyclist safety through its “Stay Wider of the Rider” campaign. Profits from the event will be invested in local cycling development projects in the Free State. \nLast year Jacques Greeff was the first male rider to cross the finish line in 2:34:18\, with Maude Elaine le Roux\, a triathlete\, taking the first female position with a time of 2:51:27.  This year some fast times can be expected again. \nParticipants can enter one of two distances\, a 103 km route (which will be used as seeding for the 2018 Cape Town Cycle Tour)\, or a shorter 32 km route. \nMore detail on the routes will be published soon. \nDiscounted “Early Bird” entries will be available from 2 July 2018 to 10 August 2018\, where after normal entry fees apply.
