DESCRIPTION:The 2018 XCOSA XCR (Relay) League offers all levels of participation the excitement of competing in Cross Country Olympic (XCO). Similar to XCO\, XCR consist of mtb lap racing on short but carefully designed and “manicured” tracks that cater even for beginner riders. XCR is fun\, safe\, challenging and spectator friendly. All events hosted by XCOSA are CSA sanctioned and executed according to international regulations! \nParticipants enter and take part SOLO or in 2-4 member teams. Each SOLO rider and team must complete 8 x 5km laps\, battling it out for full honors in their respective categories. Categories range from 10-70 year old. DESCRIPTION:Early bird entries have opened for the biggest funride in the Free State\, the PPA Mangaung Cycle Tour. As in the past\, this iconic Free State event will again be a Premier Seeding Series event for the 2019 Cape Town Cycle Tour. \nThe 2018 PPA Mangaung Cycle Tour takes place in Bloemfontein on Sunday 4 November 2018.   Cyclists can get ready for a great weekend of cycling.  Those who are tough enough can take on the Bloem Mountain Bike Challenge hosted by Afri Adventures on Saturday 3 November as a warm-up for the road race on the Sunday. \n“We are looking forward to hosting cyclists from across the country at the event this year\,” said PPA CEO Robert Vogel.  “The event should serve as a catalyst to grow road cycling in the province.  We don’t want road cyclists to miss out on the opportunity of a local seeding series event” explained Vogel. \nThe Pedal Power Association\, a public benefit organisation\, is committed to encouraging more people to ride bicycles\, with a particular focus on utility cycling and youth cycling.PPA raises awareness for cyclist safety through its “Stay Wider of the Rider” campaign. Profits from the event will be invested in local cycling development projects in the Free State. \nLast year Jacques Greeff was the first male rider to cross the finish line in 2:34:18\, with Maude Elaine le Roux\, a triathlete\, taking the first female position with a time of 2:51:27. DESCRIPTION:The Medihelp Cherry MTB Challenge is a one-day mountain bike event held in the peaceful Free State town of Ficksburg annually. Its top-class routes offer spectacular views of the Free State and include a 25 km\, 40 km and 60 km race. It also offers a 2 km and 8 km Kiddies Ride and a 15 km Fun Ride. \nThis event is held in the picturesque town of Ficksburg during the famous Cherry Festival\, giving all who attend the opportunity to sample the finest cuisine\, produce and entertainment that Ficksburg has to offer. The town will also host a golf challenge and marathon running event during the festival\, giving all sports enthusiasts even more reason to visit lovely Ficksburg for a unique experience. \nA note from the organisers: \nFicksburg Cycling Club strives to provide a highly organised top quality mountain bike event.  \nThe Cherry Race was established in 1998 by Boet du Toit and has been a successful community event ever since\, drawing enthusiastic participation from scores of MTB athletes. DESCRIPTION:The Munga is not your average bicycle event. It’s a crazy\, single stage mountain bike race across some of the toughest terrain south of the equator. A 1000 kilometre rush from Bloemfontein to Wellington in the middle of the South African summer. \nThe Munga was created in 2014 by adventurer Alex Harris. The dream was always to create a race with a huge reward\, and this it still the ultimate goal. The first Munga took place in December 2015 and was a massive success. \nSince the inaugural race\, the Munga has grown from strength to strength. New sponsors have joined the team\, new riders have completed (and not completed) the mad journey. \nThe Basics \nThe Munga runs over a little more than 1000 kilometres. There are 5 race villages where riders can rest\, eat and get mechanical assistance. There are also a number of water points placed between 50 and 60 kilometres apart. The race is semi-supported meaning that riders will be provided with support from race officials and at race villages\, but will not be permitted to have support along the route. DESCRIPTION:The 4 Deserts is the world’s leading rough-country endurance footrace series. A unique collection of world-class events that take place over 7 days and 250 kilometers in the largest and most forbidding deserts on the planet.\n\nCompetitors are challenged to go beyond the limits of their physical and mental endurance. Racing self-supported in the most inhospitable climates and formidable landscapes\, they must carry all their own equipment and food and are only provided with drinking water and a place in a tent each night to rest. \nThe Sahara Race (Namibia) 2018 starts on 29 April and takes place in the beautiful country of Namibia. The race takes place in the Namib Desert in the Skeleton Coast National Park on the coast with the Atlantic Ocean. \nCompetitors will see a great diversity of scenery and terrain as they complete the 250 kilometer / 155 mile course. This includes running along the beach where the desert meets the Atlantic Ocean and through Seal colonies\, through salt pans\, past salt lakes which are home to flamingos\, through the infamous dunes of the Namib desert\, into dry riverbeds where a hint of water gives way to lush green vegetation\, past deserted oil and diamond mines and across vast open red desert plains and hills.

Yet year after year thousands line up for the Momentum Health Attakwas Extreme presented by Biogen\, which takes place in January. \nWith 12 editions to look back on\, race directors have identified a common thread that holds this riding community together – the undeniable ‘Attakwas spirit’. Each rider arrives with a different set of ambitions\, but the same goal of simply ‘surviving’ the challenge. \nThe event has built a strong reputation for its tough and unforgiving nature\, and for the 121km’s of relentless pounding that it presents to both man and machine. \nBeyond this\, however\, the Attakwas is renowned for its truly unique sense of camaraderie. DESCRIPTION:Do not underestimate the Atta Half – it starts of with a challenging climb out of Great Brakriver towards the plateau that overlooks the beautiful bay of Mossel Bay. Riders work their way towards Jonkersberg on undulating farm roads until they reach water point 1 (after 17 km) just after Jonkerberg Forestry station. \nFrom here the most scenic of jeep track follow the contours of the southerly slopes of the mighty Outeniqua Mountains. Riders move in a westerly direction and link up with riders from the long race.
