SUMMARY:Leopard Crawl MTB & Trail Run
DESCRIPTION:Entries close 28 January 2018 at 23:00. \nThe Leopard Crawl MTB is a unique one day event\, taking place in the spectacular Little Karoo for the 15th time\, on 03 February 2018. The 12.5km trail run is a new asset to the event. \nNot only do riders and runners get a close up view of working ostrich farms\, but also get the opportunity to enter the training area of the Infantry School. This brings back good memories for many people who underwent training here. \nThe entries increase every year and the reason for that is because this is an event for the whole family. The Leopard Crawl caters for all levels of fitness from the not fit at all to the serious rider. \nThe Leopard Crawl is well known for being one of the best organized one day events in the Little Karoo with brilliant scenery and water points. \nThe 72 km (without Gongani’s Kop) is the route for the rider that loves a challenge. Almost 40 km of this event takes place in the training area of the Infantry School. Almost 80% of this is Jeep track\, crossing rifle shooting ranges\, mortar practice areas and beautiful surroundings. \nThe 32 km outside the Infantry School goes through farmlands and you will pass historical farms like Greylands\, De Zeekoe\, Safari and the Ostrich Palace\, Welgeluk. \nThere are three marvellous water points on the 72 km. The first at 26 km\, second at 47 km and the last at 59 km. \nThe 45 km route also goes through the training area of the Infantry School and joins the 72 km about 8 km before the second water point at Greylands. From there they follow the same route. \nThe 18 km is an easy route for the beginner. It joins the 72 km and 45 km at the last water point about 13 km before the end. \nEden XCM Series \nAll the MTB events form part of the Eden XCM Series and give riders the opportunity to score points early in the year. \nThe 12.5km Trail Run will give runners the best of both single track and jeep track with two water points every 4km. A camelback is not compulsory but highly recommended. Only 200 runners will be allowed to enter. \nFor the family there is a 13 km and 5 km fun ride as well as a 5 km walk. \nAt the end there is a Carnival Atmosphere awaiting the riders\, with food stalls and shade under the trees. \nThe Leopard Crawl is a family event for the weekend. Oudtshoorn has a lot of tourist attractions like the Cango Caves\, Ostrich Farms and the Cango Wildlife Ranch. No post_id and/or template

SUMMARY:SA To Host World's First 7-Day Gravel Stage Race
DESCRIPTION:The Rainmaker RollerCoaster\, the world’s first seven-day point to point gravel stage race\, will take place from 6-12 October 2018 in the Western Cape\, South Africa. \nThe RollerCoaster is the latest offering from HotChillee\, the cycling event group behind the renowned London-Paris and Cape Rouleur races. HotChillee has embraced the growing phenomenon of gravel riding over the past three years and have joined forces with digital disrupter Rainmaker Solutions\, the title sponsor of the inaugural event. \n\n\nThe RollerCoaster offers riders the chance to race 550km with 8000m of climbing from Swellendam to the coastal resort of Plettenberg Bay. Riders can take part in teams of two or can ride in small groups supported by the HotChillee Ride Captains. The event will be open to mountain bikes as well\, but the parcours will suit the speed of a gravel bike. There will be jersey and age category awards. \n“I was hooked on my first gravel ride three years ago\,” said Sven Thiele\, HotChillee Founder. “Putting the RollerCoaster together over that period has been a wonderful experience and seeing the level of buy in by locals\, authorities\, riders and sponsors indicates that gravel racing and riding will be the new wave of cycling. The route between Swellendam and Plettenberg Bay will stand out as the finest and toughest gravel race in the world. \n“South Africa\, and the Western Cape in particular\, is ideally suited to gravel riding with its quiet\, long and safe district roads that connect towns\, villages and farms. There are challenging climbs and the terrain and scenery is some of the most beautiful in the world. It combines the best aspects of road and mountain bike riding\, but at the same time imparts a unique cycling experience that we believe takes this wonderful sport to a new\, exciting level.” \nImage supplied\nThe RollerCoaster begins with a sunset time trial in the Bontebok National Park\, Swellendam\, a few hours drive from Cape Town\, and will finish in Plettenberg Bay on the iconic Garden Route. Participants will stay overnight in tented race villages\, with upgrade accommodation packages available. \nImage supplied\nMinister Alan Winde\, Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities and a keen cyclist himself\, said the Rainmaker RollerCoaster would play an important part of the Western Cape’s plan to entrench the province as a preferred cycling tourism destination: “This project has been high on my agenda since launching the Cross Cape gravel routes. Having an international 7-stage gravel race take place in the region will further demonstrate what the region has to offer to local and international tourists.” \n\nStage details:\nSaturday 6 October: Stage 1 – Swellendam (Prologue) (16km/135m)\nSunday 7 October: Stage 2 – Swellendam – Swellendam (57km/1150m)\nMonday 8 October: Stage 3 – Swellendam – Riversdale (107km/2000m)\nTuesday 9 October: Stage 4 – Riversdale – Calitzdorp (109km/2100m)\nWednesday 10 October: Stage 5 – Calitzdorp – Oudtshoorn (53km/350m)\nThursday 11 October: Stage 6 – Oudtshoorn – Knysna (140km/2150m)\nFriday 12 October: Stage 7 – Knysna – Plettenberg Bay (74km/1650m)\n\nEvent date: 6 – 12 October 2018 (5 – 11 October 2019)\nRegistrations open: 14:00 GMT\, Tuesday 5 June 2018\nEntry cost start from: 12\,950 ZAR (single occupancy two-man tent with all meals)

SUMMARY:7 Tips For Cleaning Your Cycling Water Bottles
DESCRIPTION:Sticky sweet sports drinks and hydration tablets can turn your cycling bottles into incubators for bacteria and mould. Check out our expert tips below to keep your bottles fresh and clean and in good shape for years of use. \nWash By Hand\nRinsing bottles by hand with warm water and soap is the best way to clean them out after rides\, according to Ryan Jones\, director of bottle development & operations at Specialized. Any general\, all-purpose liquid soap will do the job. \nUse a Brush\nA simple\, long-handled bottle brush\, available at most department or kitchen stores\, will help you clean deep inside large bottles or those with narrow openings. Some scrubbing with a brush cleans sticky residues more easily and thoroughly and better removes mold than rinsing alone. \nDon’t Forget the Caps\nWhen you take a drink\, fluid flows through a bottle’s cap\, so remember to take care of the lid\, too. Seth Beiden\, marketing manager at CamelBak\, suggests that you squeeze some soapy water through each bottle cap. \nSkip the Dishwasher\nSure\, it’s easier to toss your bottles into the dishwasher\, but the water temperatures in most dishwashers are near boiling. Such heat commonly deforms many types of plastic goods and kitchen utensils and can degrade your bottles more quickly over time. \nClean After Every Ride\nJust as you would for a drinking glass\, wash your bottle every time. Even if you only drink water\, you’re still leaving sweat and possibly bits of whatever you’re eating on the lid as you ride and drink\, according to Beiden. At the very least\, rinse your used bottle out. \nSkip Harsh Cleaners\nIf you have to resort to harsh cleaners\, it’s probably time to toss the bottle into the recycling bin. Jones notes that bleach in particular is a harsh chemical you may want to avoid putting into your bottle. If you don’t rinse enough\, the bleach could contaminate your water next time you fill up the bottle. “If someone who is sick uses your bottle\, a good warm soapy rinse should be enough to take care of any germs\,” says Jones. \nKnow When to Toss It\nDespite all the best intentions\, sometimes a bottle doesn’t get cleaned frequently or thoroughly enough and mold grows inside. Jones suggests that you visually inspect the your bottle’s interior\, and if you can’t relatively easily remove all mold with warm\, soapy water and a brush\, it’s time to get rid of the bottle.
