The Fairview Attakwas Extreme MTB Challenge is often referred to as the Hell of the South and while the top riders endure tremendous suffering in the quest for victory they don’t spend anywhere near as much time in the saddle as the weekend warrior. The average time for the 2017 race was 8 hours and 43 seconds, while 226 of the 945 finishers took over 9 hours to complete the 121km route, 50 riders of which took over 10 hours.
