The Absa Cape Epic #ConquerAsOne Moment Of Stage 3

Stopping to help another team is not unheard of, even for competitive riders, at the Absa Cape Epic!

The #ConquerAsOne moments are normally about overcoming your own obstacles, however on Stage 3 of the race, the #ConquerAsOne moment went to a team that helped another team overcome their own immediate challenges.

The two-person team format of the Absa Cape Epic is all designed to encourage teamwork but for some riders that teamwork extends beyond just the partner they are riding with.

During Stage 3, Martin Epstein and Craig Gerber, who are competitive at the sharp end of the field, came to the rescue of an Exxaro team in trouble. One of the Exxaro riders had fallen and hit his head badly and Martin and Craig stopped to assist. They cleaned the wound with their last bit of water and called the medical staff.

They then waited with the two Exxaro riders until medical help arrived and then were forced to ride without water to the next water point on a sweltering day.

Martin and Craig’s gesture proved that camaraderie exists way beyond just the partnership of two riders at the ABSA Cape Epic.
