The event takes place in Ficksburg on 18 November, and with entries closing on 15 November, riders must sign up fast!

Entertainment for everyone

The Ficksburg Cherry Festival is one of the largest events on the South African festival calendar, and has been an annual festival for 50 years. It started small back in the sixties, but has since grown to become a major event, with accommodation in Ficksburg and the surrounding towns booked out months before the event.

The festival includes music concerts, art exhibitions, picnics, farm tours, craft stalls, a fashion show and local cherry wine tasting, but the Medihelp Cherry MTB Challenge remains the most exciting, known as South African cycling’s “cherry on top” MTB event.

Cherry Festival Chairman Johan du Toit says: “Festival-goers will enjoy an exhilarating, re-energised festival this year, with an array of fresh and very different exhibitors on hand to tempt and intrigue them.”

The Cherry MTB

The Medihelp Cherry MTB has been a festival event for 12 years. Its top-class routes, with the most spectacular views of the Free State, include 25km, 40km and 60km events. There is also a 15 km fun ride, and kiddies’ rides of 8km and 2km. The race starts at the Ficksburg Golf Club.

There’ll be R15,000 in prizes, with lucky draw prizes to be won. All finishers will receive medals.
