When you think of your typical Absa Cape Epic riders you don’t think of Dawie Theron and Nelis Coetzee of the 2Big team. Between them, they weigh an imposing 260kg and are arguably the heaviest team to have ever competed in the event.
Despite their size the two decided to take on the challenge since Dawie was determined to do the event before he turned 50.
At the end of Stage 6, with one day to go Dawie and Nelis spent 43 hours and 33 minutes on their bike, but have never been close to missing the maximum stage time despite suffering numerous mechanical issues over the week. In true #ConquerAsOne spirit the two, despite feeling the effects of seven days of riding, were determined to finish together.
As the biggest riders in the field, the two hoped to inspire others to believe in their ability to finish events like the Absa Cape Epic.
Overall winning moment of the #ConquerAsOne rider competition
In addition to being named the Stage 6 #ConquerAsOne moment, Dawie Theron and Nelis Coetzee were also awarded the most inspiring #ConquerAsOne moment of the week. They will go up against the winners of the reader competition in a final round of voting on the Bicycling website. The winning team walk away with Absa Pride Entries to the 2019 Absa Cape Epic.
