The legendary cycling commentary duo of Paul Sherwen and Phil Liggett are no more after reports surfaced on the weekend that Sherwen had died suddenly at his home in Uganda.

In a moving tweet Liggett described news of the loss as ‘sadness like never before…” and paid tribute to his co-worker with whom he had worked for 33 years.

Details of how Sherwen passed away are still unclear but his status as one of the duo that truly put cycling on the map with their insightful passionate commentating will be sorely missed.

Liggett, who is currently staying at his house in Phalaborwa, thanked everyone on Twitter for their messages of support.

Sherwen rode the Tour de France on seven occasions and was a top class professional once finishing 15th at the Paris-Roubaix. He had a stake in a mining business in Uganda but still worked on events around the world as a commentator.
