ASK BICYCLING: I Have To Pee Constantly During Rides. What’s Up?

Michael Finch |

Ask BicyclingYour kidneys are good at balancing urine output with the quantity of fluid that you drink. “So if you constantly have to pee, you’re probably drinking beyond your needs,” says Maurie Luetkemeier, PhD, a professor of integrative physiology at Alma College in Michigan, US. You should have to go about as frequently as when you’re not riding, he says. Experiment with how much you drink on the bike to find the best amount for you. Caveat: a frequent urge to pee might be a symptom of something more serious. If you’re also experiencing pain or numbness in the pelvis or saddle region, or erectile dysfunction, then it’s time to check in with a doctor. Want to ask another question?
