Tour Italy’s Lake Garda: Day 4
Albergo Rifugio Graziani – Peschiera del Garda
80.7km / 1 031m / Riding Time 3:54.57
Touted by the Lads as ‘the dash to the finish’, our final stage delivered some spectacular downhills – peppered with technical singletrack and steep climbs, just to remind us that we were still playing on the slopes of the Monte Baldo.
Throwing caution to the winds at times, we flew down concrete mountain roads, with adrenaline surging and our senses on full alert. Big descents are a careful balance of speed and flow; you search for the right line into corners, the perfect moment to power out, and you have to resist the urge to touch your brakes… The feeling left me giddy. I was shaking with excitement by the time we reached our lunch stop on the lake shore.
Our final, gentle roll through the vineyards towards Peschiera was a chance for me to… keep up! But also to reflect: riding, with my son, through one of the most spectacular regions in the world, is a rare privilege.
And our bikes made it all possible.
The memories of the climbs and descents, the food and the banter – and the challenges – will stay with me for a long, long time. This trip was the best of all of those things.
