Africa’s own IRONMAN TriClub Championship

To add to all the hype, IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa announced that the IRONMAN African TriClub Championship will be taking place at this year’s event.

“Triathlon clubs are a key part of our sport and club mates become like family during the journey to the finish line. We are excited to give clubs from around Africa the opportunity to compete for the title of IRONMAN African TriClub Champion. Athletes from South Africa, Botswana, Egypt, Namibia and Reunion among others are already entered for the event so there will be a lot of club pride at stake to be crowned the best TriClub in Africa,” says Paul Wolff, Director of Operations: IRONMAN South Africa.

Traditionally classified as part of the IRONMAN Europe, Africa and Middle-East TriClub Championship, this is the first time that Africa will host its own Ironman TriClub Championship event. Clubs will compete in one of five divisions based on size and participating members will earn points based on their overall finishing times.

“Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa finishers are a league of legends, so it is only fitting for this historic race to welcome the IRONMAN African TriClub Championship. The quality of race experience, the challenge it offers, and the unique atmosphere are just a few of the reasons this race has reached this level of popularity amongst athletes,” says Keith Bowler, Managing Director: IRONMAN South Africa.
