Stage 11 and Stage 12 are two of several potentially decisive stages for the general classification in the 2018 Tour de France. The former, a 108km route, with multiple categorised climbs and this year’s first mountain-top finish, promised to produce time gaps between the GC contenders.

That promise was kept. The latter, a 175km route, ending with a summit finish atop the historic and notorious Alpe d’Huez, was a test for the riders looking to dethrone Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas of Team Sky.

Thomas drew first blood in the battle for overall victory by winning Stage 11. His win extended the lead over teammate Chris Froome and verified an inner-team rivalry reminiscent of the Lemond/Hinault and Riis/Ulrich days. Thomas’ Stage 12 victory created more questions about who is in charge of the team, but it is clear that Team Sky is in a powerful position with two of the top three GC riders at this point in the race.

Thomas rode a Pinarello Dogma F10 X-Light, the lighter version of the Dogma F10, to victory on Stage 11. His Dogma is equipped with products from Shimano’s highest-end line: Dura-Ace Di2 9150 electronic components with direct-mount brakes, Shimano Dura-Ace C35 tubular wheels with Continental tyres, a Shimano Dura-Ace power meter, and Shimano Dura-Ace pedals. The integrated bars and stem come from Pinarello’s Most line of products, and the Fizik Arionne is Thomas’ saddle of choice.
