The first season of the Toyota Tour de Virtuale ecycling tournament saw local riders put their fitness and cycling intuition to the test for cash prizes and the chance to ride with Toyota CRYO RDT.

As soon as the riders crossed the finish line in the final race, people were clamouring to find out when the next ecycling tournament would start. Toyota wasted no time and teamed up with Masters SA, BikeConnect, Specialized Bicycles, Toyota CRYO RDT, and Wahoo to bring the second season, and make it even better than the first.

“We are delighted to be part of the Toyota Tour de Virtuale tournament again. Unearthing talent from underrepresented areas is one of our goals, as we look to develop and grow cycling and esports on a global scale. Having increased representation from African nations riding at an elite level in esports is something Toyota CRYO RDT holds close to its heart.” – Alan Glendinning, Toyota CRYO RDT Director

Riders in the Toyota Tour de Virtuale: Season 2 brought to you by Masters SA will be racing for the following men’s and women’s respective prizes:

1st place: R10 000 Cash + A chance to ride with Toyota CRYO RDT

2nd place: R2 500 Cash

3rd place:  R1 000 Cash

Awards will also be given to top performers separated by age groups, meaning that there is an additional R58 000 worth of Toyota Specialized and Wahoo prizes to be won!

The new season gets off the mark with community rides led by Toyota CRYO RDT and South Africa’s top cyclists, where people who might not be familiar with virtual cycling can get brought up to speed before the real racing begins.

After the community rides, ecyclists will go through 5 rounds of knockout races in their respective pain caves at home, with all races being live-streamed. At the end of the 5th round, the remaining ecyclists progress to the Finals.

The Finals will be an in-person live event held at the Specialized Paarl store in Cape Town. An exhibition race featuring popular personalities from the cycling world will be the undercard for the main races between our would-be Toyota Tour de Virtuale men’s and women’s champions.
