The race was punctuated by many attacks, the first of which was launched at 28km by Michelle Benson. The biggest move of the day however, came from Demacon’s Elmarie de Wet who brokeaway at 49km and kept the gap for an astounding 40km.

The next 15km showcased aggressive riding and attacks from Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and An-Li Kachelhoffer but every move was eventually reeled-in by the peleton.

The last lap saw Dalton make her decisive move. Nobody seemed willing to follow her and soon the time gap over the chasing bunch began to grow. She eventually sailed over the line in a time of 3:43:37, followed by An-Li Kachelhoffer 3:57:15 and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio in 3:57:16 who finished in second and third place respectively.

Below are a selection of images from the race as captured by ace lensman, Rob Ward.
