Nestled between Polokwane and Tzaneen, lies the start line of the all-new Magoeba race – the scenic Cheerio Gardens – situated right in the middle of the Magoebaskloof Mountains. The area has grown in popularity as an adventure-sport destination, playing host to events such as the Ebenezer Mile, the Wolkberg Stage Trail Run, the Iron Crown Trail Run, The Wik Triathlon and the single day Magoebaskloof MTB Classic. Now it hosts the brand-new Magoeba too!

The Magoeba boasts some of the best mountain bike routes in the country and “it’s time to share the sport’s best-kept secret,” says race organiser, Marc Noné.

Choose your distance

The three-day stage race takes place from 24-26 August 2018 and allows riders to choose one of two route options – a 40km per day route for those wanting a slightly less testing, incredibly scenic option; as well as a 70km per day version. The longer route includes some challenging climbs and tests riders’ endurance, making them earn that delicious post-race craft beer!

The race format for both the 40km and 70km options will be three stages over three days, in a clover-leaf format, traversing a wide range of terrain from tough climbs to technical descents, to gentle farm roads, jeep track and everything in between.

The event has attracted some excellent sponsors, mainly local companies whose owners are also keen mountain bikers, eager to make the race the best adventure on a bike!

“Food and tented accommodation will be provided at Cheerio Gardens and one of our sponsors is the local – and excellent – craft beer company, Zwakala, so even after a tough day in the saddle cyclists can be sure to get in some good chill time before the next day,” says Noné.
