Garmin’s newest cycling computers – the Edge 550 and 850 – are small, bright, and packed with features that make life on two wheels a little easier. With a 2.7-inch colour display and responsive interface, they’re easy to read on sunny rides along the coast or through city traffic. Battery life ranges from 12 hours under heavy use to up to 36 hours in battery-saver mode, enough to cover everything from a quick morning loop to a full-day epic.

Training Made Smarter

Both units link to Garmin Connect for adaptive training plans that adjust to your fitness and the demands of a route. On the road, smart fuelling alerts remind you when to hydrate or refuel, taking into account heat, humidity, and how hard you’re pushing. After a ride, Gear Ratio Analysis and other metrics give a clear picture of where you excel – and where there’s room to improve.

Group rides get a boost too, with new GroupRide comparisons showing how your power, cadence, heart rate, and speed stack up against fellow riders in real time. Enduro and downhill profiles enable 5 Hz GPS recording while descending, helping cyclists view the lines they took in greater detail, while the timing gates feature helps them see splits in real time for each lap or run.

Navigation, Convenience, and Safety

The Edge 850 adds a touchscreen and built-in speaker, making navigation simple, giving audible alerts, and even offering a digital bike bell for alerting pedestrians or other riders. On-device course creation and Garmin Pay for a mid-ride coffee make it easier to explore without worrying about logistics.

Both computers provide real-time weather overlays, road hazard alerts, and incident detection for peace of mind. LiveTrack lets friends and family follow your ride, while Varia radar and cameras add an extra layer of awareness on busy roads.

Whether you’re chasing personal bests, exploring new routes, or just out for a weekend ride with friends, the Edge 550 and 850 are designed to help you ride smarter, safer, and longer.
