REVIEWED: The Cabal Aero 2

The Cabal Aero 2 was named Bicycling SA's Editor's Choice in the 2024 Bike Buyer's Guide.

Cabal is a South African company based in Cape Town, with the goal of creating dream bikes that also offer excellent value for money.

The Cabal Aero 2 is fast and flash. It’s a quintessential race bike, with all the modern flourishes like dropped seat stays, disc brakes, aero seat post and aero integrated handlebar.

The wheels are in-house carbon: you can choose from a standard set of 40mm carbon hoops, or go for 46/54mm deep-section bad boys with bladed carbon spokes to make the bike even faster. There are two drivetrain options: SRAM Rival eTap AXS, or Force eTap AXS.

But the best thing about buying an Aero 2 is that no two are the same. You’ll be measured up to ensure the fit is perfect for the custom build. Then, the fun part: you can choose any standard base and decal paint, or a more extravagant paint job for a small extra fee. The paintwork is done by Jared Mahaffey at BMC, and James Perry at CBR, who are both world-class.

Indeed, there’s no such thing as a generic Cabal Aero 2. You might not be building a frame from scratch, however, the bike is fully custom-fitted and built to your physique. Ultimately you’ll end up with a super-light, modern, premium carbon bike with a unique, once-off paint scheme, plus amazing back-up service, at a price well below competitor offerings.

That’s the stuff of dreams!
