Trek’s New Rail+ Offers Big Travel and Big Range
An eMTB bike made for exploring the spaces beyond your usual loop.
Trek’s latest Rail+ lands firmly in the long-travel e-enduro category, built for riders who want the stability and support to take on bigger terrain and longer days out.
With 160mm of travel front and rear, mixed wheel sizes, and Bosch’s newest high-capacity drive system, it’s designed to handle rough trails while making the climbs noticeably easier.
Geometry and Suspension
The Rail+ runs a 29-inch wheel up front and 27.5-inch wheel at the rear, paired with 160/160mm of travel. The head angle sits at 64.5 degrees, placing it in the modern enduro zone. Trek includes its usual adjustability features:
-
Angle-adjust headset cups (sold separately) allow you to make the bike one degree slacker or steeper without changing the bottom bracket height.
-
Mino Link gives you a small tweak in bottom bracket height and a 0.5° head-angle change.
-
Flip chip at the lower shock mount lets you choose a more progressive leverage rate if you’re running a coil shock or want extra support deeper in the travel.

The latest generation also gets a refined suspension kinematic. Trek has increased anti-squat for better pedalling efficiency and reduced the leverage rate to keep the feel plush on rough ground.
Bosch Power and Assist
The bike is powered by Bosch’s 85 Nm motor with assistance up to 32 km/h. It’s a familiar and widely proven system, but here it’s paired with Bosch’s new 800 Wh PowerTube battery, giving the Rail+ a notably large claimed range of 4–10 hours, depending on terrain, mode and rider weight.
For riders who prefer a lighter setup, the frame is also compatible with Bosch’s new 600 Wh battery. And if the goal is maximum distance, the Rail+ works with the Bosch PowerMore range extender, adding extra hours for big-mountain days.

Battery and Controls
All Rail+ Gen 5 models use Bosch’s updated Mini Remote and System Controller. These let you see mode, assist level, and battery at a glance without adding clutter to the cockpit.
Trek has also redesigned its Removable Integrated Battery system (RIB 2.0). The updated version is easier to take out for charging and simplifies loading the bike onto racks. It uses a new hex-key system for removal and includes a safety catch to prevent the battery from dropping unexpectedly.
Fit and Customisation
The Rail+ frame is built with enough room for:
-
Longer dropper posts
-
Coil shocks
-
170mm forks
This keeps the platform versatile for riders who like to tune their setup depending on terrain or riding style.
Tech Integration
The bike pairs with the Bosch eBike Flow app, which supports both iOS and Android. The app handles firmware updates, ride data, and gives a clear overview of battery status and range. It’s designed as a simple hub for managing the motor system and keeping everything running on the latest software.

The Takeaway
The Trek Rail+ is a long-travel eMTB aimed at riders who want the combination of big terrain capability and the extended reach of an 800 Wh battery. Its geometry adjustability, Bosch drive system, and improved suspension make it a solid option for all-day enduro-style riding — especially if your trails involve repeated climbing, rough descents, and long distances.
The starting price for the Rail+ range is R112,000 with the Rail+ 8. Click here for more info.
