Be Quick: 947 Ride Joburg 25th Edition Entries Are Open

The 25th edition of the 947 Ride Joburg will take place on 21 November, 2021 - and you better get your entry in fast!

The Bicycling Editors |

947 Ride Joburg has launched, and entries are open for the 25th edition of Gauteng’s biggest annual celebration of cycling. As with anything in the City of Gold, 21 November 2021 promises to be bigger and better than any of the first 24 editions.

  • 21 NOVEMBER 2021
  • NASREC / FNB STADIUM, JOHANNESBURG
  • R 595.00 (INCLUDES 15% VAT AND CSA RIDER LEVY)
  • 97KM *SUBJECT TO CHANGE
  • FROM 05H30

  • 12 YEARS AND OLDER
  • THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE WILL USE SELECTED SAS EVENT RESULTS OBTAINED BETWEEN 1 NOVEMBER 2019 AND 30 SEPTEMBER 2021 FOR SEEDING (AT THE DISCRETION OF THE RACE DIRECTOR).
  • ENTRIES CLOSE: 5 OCTOBER 2021 OR WHEN CAPACITY IS REACHED.
  • SHOULD THE EVENT ENTRY NUMBERS BE REDUCED DUE TO COVID-19 RELATED REASONS, ONLY THE FIRST PAID ENTRANTS WILL BE ACCEPTED ON A FIRST IN LAST OUT BASIS.

Starting with the racing snakes – in all categories (see the table at the end of this story), the 2021 edition is making history by offering the biggest prize purse for a single-day cycling event on the continent. R200 000 each is on the table for the first male and female cyclist in the Elite road races, with equal prize money for men and women across the board.

947 Ride Joburg Road

The start/finish venue for 947 Ride Joburg Road will be at the FNB Stadium and Nasrec, bordering Soweto. It is easily accessible, and with a capacity of 80 000, there’s enough room to accommodate cyclists and spectators with ease. The route is slightly longer at 97km and remains the same for the most part, except for some brand-new sections that have been added to show off Joburg, in a whole new light.

947 Ride Joburg MTB and Kids

Both the off-road and kids events will be hosted at Steyn City. If you have ridden the thrilling MTB routes around Steyn City in previous years you would know that we would be hard-pressed to improve on it, but there was no resting on laurels over Covid in the race office; expect plenty of new, exciting tracks and trails.

The Covid Bits

Realistically, the Covid pandemic will remain a factor even into the final quarter of 2021. The organisers are fully Covid-compliant with every aspect of the events, but should it become evident that the event needs to be reduced or cancelled, Faces Ride Joburg offers riders a 100% refund of their entry fees.

Should the participation numbers need to be reduced to comply with regulations, participation will be on a first-in, last-out basis. Those who have entered first will receive preference. The exact registration procedures will be adapted and configured in accordance with Covid developments  and will be communicated to entrants closer to the time.Enter early, so your spot is secured. Participation will be on a first-in, last-out basis if entries are limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. In the case that the event needs to be cancelled or numbers reduced, riders will be offered a 100% refund of their entry fee.
